Hyper for second bike?
I usually ride the 1198 but am considering a Hyper for a second bike. Also considering the Hyper 796 (but dont like the idea of non adjustable suspension) the Aprilia 5.5 supermoto, and the KTM Duke 690 or 690 R. I want a upright, SM type bike for city riding, something that doesn't need to be doing over 100 MPH to feel like its hitting its stride (like the 1198), something torquey that feels good at around say, 30 to 70 mph. I was told the Aprilia isn't even street legal and is too racy for street use, its either on or off, nothing in between. I cant find anyone who has ridden the KTM. I like how the 796 is lighter than the 1100, but being used to the power of my 1198, I dont think the 796 would do it for me. Obviously this is the Hyper forum so everyone here is partial, but what do you guys think? So far I am not partial to anything.

There are always 1100 Hypers coming up for sale here, for less than a new 796 would cost. I would snag one up!
(And you will find that your 1198 becomes your "second bike"...)

Like you said, we're probably pretty partial. I haven't ridden the Aprilia, but I have played with the Duke. FUN bike with extremely good components! The SMC even more so. Maybe I should add that I'm kinda partial to KTM as well since I also own a 990A

being that i own a 1098s and a hyper 1100s i will tell you your wasting your time with the small hyper stay with the 1100 it has some grunt.i think the hyper is a great 2nd bike and compared to real supermotards... with the proper seating the hyper is capable of 350 miles a day pretty comfy.they are both very cool bikes and each of them serve theyre purpose.the only other option is turn your 1198 into a motard...lol

The Aprilia is as much work to take care of as a stripper with a coke habit. Maybe as much fun too. The KTM's are great bikes with strong engines that run out of steam around 80ish and feel a bit buzzy on the highway. I loved my older Duke II for playing in the city but it felt lost on faster sweepers. Both of those bikes are super quick with the Aprilia having an almost 2-stroke rush. The Hyper is like an adult version of those bikes - while it's a bit calmer it can do all the same stuff but doesn't get as wound up or out of shape - sorta like the stripper that got married but still has the moves.
I need to work on finding other analogies for my bikes. My riding partner is Italian so the only way to explain things to him is with women analogies...

spot fooking on.
i'm fortunate to own both the Hyper and Aprilia.
get the Aprilia if you have the wherewithal to own one. if you want something a bit more simple and almost as fun, buy yourself a Husqvarna SM 610. buy the Ducati Hypermotard if you want a combination of both simple, fast, and fun. it's a much more well rounded out motorcycle, and one that you'll probably ride more often than you think.
having said that, you did mention wanting a ride for the city. if you're really just wanting one for that purpose, then get the Aprilia for certain as you probably won't be putting all that much mileage on it. it is a wicked fkin' motorcycle. the Hyper will be money wasted in my opinion.
have fun with the hunt.

for the city, the 300lb crazed Aprilia would seem like so much more fun....well, at least to me it does. if the OP were to throw in "some canyon, some track, etc." then i'd change my tune. but a Hyper for city only seems like both a waste of $ and bike.
i suppose differences of opinion are what help the world go 'round.
to the OP: call Pro Italia for either one of the two (aprilia/ducati)....they have 'em both in stock and for sale. oh ya, and tell Ben i sent ya!
