Big Tank Problems?

The local dealer called me today, my Hyper was in for the 7500 mile service. When they put the CCW 6.4 tank back in they say that one of the inserts turned and the tank is now leaking around the fuel pump opening. CCW has that no questions asked warranty on the tank, but the shop won't install the new tank. I put the tank in originally so it's not really that hard to do. Has anyone else had this issue? Or is the dealer hiding a heavy handed mechanic on CCW quality control?

Also does anyone have a picture of the CCW natural/clear tank on their bike? If I want it replaced right away I have to go with natural, or wait a few weeks for black.

I think CCW mentioned somewhere that they didnt sell any natural/clear tank yet.
So far the only different color i've seen is red.

As for the issue with your tank, I'd blame the mecanic.
I had to spend a good 25 minutes over the phone with my dealer, speaking with 3 differents guys, to explain them what the Ducshop stack was... all that just to get an appoitment for a CO trim.
I've been seeing more than one Ducati dealer, and when it comes to aftermark parts out of their overpriced DP catalog, they dont try to help at all.

I bought the tank through the dealer, this the first time I've gone for service, because BCM's gone. So basically no ones had this problem so far?

I stopped at dealer one the the way home today. I brought my tools to see if I could fix that tank on the Hyper, there was no way. I tried popping the insert out it just wouldn't come, the bolt won't go in or out. The insert would just spin. When I gave up and went to put the others screws back in, the holes weren't lined up, they were off by half the bolt hole. They weren't kidding it is really the tank thats the problem. There's a new white one on the way. I'm installing it myself, I can't blame the dealer for what's going on.

I'm worried that the same thing will happen next big service. I'm glad I saved my original tank in case this isn't a isolated problem.

You installed the tank and the insert was fine. You take it for service and they jack up the insert while re-installing the fuel pump? That's a mechanic issue that should be covered by the shop. They are lucky Chris will change out the tank or they would be liable for that too.

I hope you get this sorted out. I'd hold the dealer/mechanic responsible for these issues and a respectable dealership should correct issues they brought about.

That said, a few people from BCM have moved down to Seacoast (in Derry) http://seacoastsport.com/ (hope they are not the ones currently dealing with...)

Unfortunately, these plastic inserts are suceptable to loosening. It happens with a lot of air boxes too. I have also had it happen to some electron sensor mounting points for water/waste holding tanks on my toyhauler. Even the slightest amount of overtorquing and your hosed.

On the upside, I'd like to see you hit that natural tank with a coat of Krylon Fusion in your favorite color...............some will say it can't be done.

Out!

How on earth can you even think of blaming the mechanic if an insert poops out while unscrewing a screw?
