Multistrada or Hypermotard....
I know that it's a tough question and very subjective but I am looking for a little guidance. I am coming from a yamaha wr250x that I love but want some more grunt and some highway capability. I am not a touring guy but wouldn't mind being able to be able to travel 100 highway miles occasionally in reasonable comfort. I am leaning towards the hypermotard evo, which is why I posted here, hoping for some biased answers. Is the hyper a reasonably capable highway bike. I know I will love it for everything else. Or am I better off keping my wr for around town and getting the new multistrada for longer days in the saddle? Thanks for any feedback

Hyper does not do long trips and superslab well. Bag options, tank and windscreen are limited. HOWEVER, if you can find back roads or ways to avoid the super slab, 100 miles is no problem for the Hyper.

Multi is better for longer trips and multiple days in the saddle. KMT SMT is another option (love mine, miss the Hyper) as it gives you a 200 mile tank range, bags and better wind protection while still maintaining the SM riding position. But, its not a Ducati

I live in Arizona, our roads are far too straight. I regularly have to run 100 or so miles of straight roads. The Hyper does just fine. It cruises at 80+mph all day long.
If you were buying this a slab runner with the occasional twisty road, I'd say buy the Multi, but as a twisty road runner with the occasion slab trek, I think the Hyper is just what your are looking for coming from a WR.
Good luck,
Dave

If you can only have one bike always buy the Multi, best all a rounder there is.

i had an 08 wr250x. replaced it with an 09 hyper. love love love it. similar ergo, way, way, way more power. now too bad for 100 miles ride. comfy enough for me. just a little better wind protection than wr250x.

FWIW: I came from an '07 DR-Z400SM to an '08 Hyper. I LOVE it. The max I could do on the Z was about an hour (even with a Corbin seat). On the Hyper, my longest day so far was about 275 miles with zero comfort issues. The limited range hasn't bothered me at all... After 14,000 miles on the Z, I got quite used to filling up every 70 miles or so.

The new multi may be the best all arounder, God knows I can't wait to sample one. But, you are paying a hefty sum for all that capability.

I had to ride 350 miles of interstate on the hyper and it wasn't that bad. I did have Ca Cycleworks 6.5 gal tank installed. The windblast isn't an issue until you are over 70-80mph but there are windscreens available (both stock and aftermarket.) I have the Fabbri windscreen and it helps quite a bit with the interstate droning. I also put on a sargent seat b/c I do plan on putting some serious miles on my hyper. I came from a sport touring bike (yamaha fjr) and while it was great for the long haul and super slab I didn't really need the saddlbags in town or even for day trips. Plus she sure was heavy around town compared to the hyper.
I think you'd be fine with the Hyper if you are only going 100 miles on the super slab to get to the twisties. A few modifications (nothing major except for the large gas tank if you want to avoid frequent fill ups) and I think the hyper is a decent sport touring bike. You figure if they used this engine on their old multistrada it can handle a lot of mileage.
If you are doing 3+ cross country trips a year I'd say go with the multistrada.

they are both really nice bikes i have the hyper s and 1098s and wouldnt mind adding the new strada as well.as for your concerns if you get the right seat for your hyper you will be fine for 250-350 miles a day..in reality i did 437 in one day and thats with my bike getn 125 miles per fill up.especially coming of the wr this thing going to feel like a sofa for ya..lol dont know alot about the multi but i know i like the looks of it and took a short ride on it and iwas amazed how much power it has and also noticed the wind protection as well since ive never really had a bike with that much wind protection before most ive had is my 1098.think you will be happy with either bike but if your looking to save some $ go with the hyper.and you could even save more going with a slightly used 08 09 s w/mods from a private owner for 10k or under and still have boatloads of fun.

Big price difference , you could pick up a nice used Hyper for around 1/2 price with a few miles and some mods already...
