Error 38.0 - CAN Communication

Hoping somebody with the service manual can help out.. I'm building the Hyper back up after quite a long stand-still and she's throwing a CAN communication error (error 38.0). I know she ran fine before I tore her down, so I must have missed a plug somewhere.
I have the service manual but only on my work computer and can't get it to work on my mac at home
Is there a chapter in the service manual on error codes? If so, can someone please copy/paste the relevant section?

Thanks!!

I know this is an old thread but I've got this error code and I have no idea where to start. Any help would be great.

Installed a DDM HID last night but others have done the same thing and no issues??? Guess I'll pull it out and go back to stock and see if the code clears.

I have installed the same kit without that coming up. From what I know of the can code (not much) it affects the dashboard to ecu lines and therefore anything coming in that gives a reading on the dash. So is there a plug loose on any connection? Does your high/low beam light work? That is assuming you put in a high/low ddm kit. Sorry I am not much help. Good luck.

Ok so I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot the issue much but some background; I installed the DDM 55w Bixeon HID kit and all was well, initially. The next day going to work and lunch all was fine. On the way home the CEL came on and flashed several times with no code. If I pulled the clutch in or stopped say at a light the CEL would go away but at about 3k rpm it would come back on. Later last night while at a meet with friends (DesmoSouthwest.com) I was showing them the issue I was having and how I could start the bike and rev to 3k and the CEL would come on and after I let off it would go out. No codes and nothing in memory. Finally as I got ready to leave I finally got the ERROR 38.0 CAN. Cool at least I got a code that I might be able to get some help with but when throwing a code that is all I get is the code, no tach no mph no neutral light...

CAN comunication is how two or more control modules talk to eachother. Example is this, the ECU will have the RPM values in it, it would send this info to the cluster via the CAN wires so it can display it on the tach. If the CAN goes down the cluster will not display any info that was to be sent to it from other modules. Chances are when you installed the HID kit you may have left a connector loose or pinched a wire somewhere.

Uninstalled the HID and checked wires and connections, all looks good. Now I've still got the 38.0 CAN and 37.5 IMMO. I'm at a loss, gonna have to call the dealership tomorrow
