Hyper796 Noisey Forks
Hi, when I push the forks down on my hyper796 I hear a noise that sounds exactly like the springs rubbing something, I have never heard forks make noise like this out of all the bikes I have owned and its deffinitly comeing from inside the tubes when I push them down (I do not hear it on rebound only when pushed down) but the forks do work fine just dont like this noise at all, Anybody with a 796 please push your forks up and down and tell me if yours makes noise Thankyou! I am wondering if you installed frame sliders? The reason I ask is I had a noise similar to what you are describing in my 1100. With the help of other members here, we were able to determine that the engine mouting rod that is replaced as a part of the frame slider install was corroded/rusted and causing a creaking sound that I could've sworm was coming from the forks. At least it only happened when I compressed the forks.
You just need to force the rod out with the stocker and grease the heck out of the aftermarket one, once you clean off the rust.
Let us know if this is relevent.

Nah its deffinitly inside the tubes, If I put my ear against them and have someone push them down I can hear the springs making noise and noise is the same on both tubes, I stoped by my dealer with bike and they said its the oil flowing through valves.

Haha...well then the 796 forks must be better than the 1100 forks because on the 1100s, no oil flows through the valves....

so you havn't put on frame sliders? Because I was equally convinced that it was my forks as you are. I know my way around a bike as well. Just something to eliminate, I suppose.

Nope no sliders, It is deffinitly spring noise cause its coming from the top of the tubes and sound is the same in both tubes, sounds like the springs are rubbing the tube walls. The 796 fork internals and springs are a bit different looking on the microfiche but I have never heard the springs inside any forktube befor on any of my other bikes.

Just picked up a 796. Forks sound exactly as you describe. I asked the mechanic about it and he said it's normal, even though I've never heard that before either.
So here is my sound question. When I decelerate with engine braking, I hear what I would call a metallic burping. Could be the exhaust, but I'm also wondering if it is the slipper clutch. I've only been on one 70 mile ride and I was wearing ear plugs. Any ideas?

These engines make a ton of different noises but I would say its that huge cat on the bottom and especially with quiet exhaust you always hear everything I have noticed, Im gonna be riding all day today and gonna have a close listen. As for the forks yea its really weird but im glad someone else has noticed the same thing. Thanks everbody for all your imput!
