Auxiliary lights on the Hyper?
Anyone know of a fellow Hyper rider, or first hand account of auxiliary lights. I know this is not a touring bike, but with the winter coming quickly and the sun going down earlier and earlier, I was looking for options.

Optimistic, yes. Since I live in FL the winter is mild, but getting to work and back home, I wanted options. I didn't mean for winter to come quickly, rather that June is already over.

I'd say go with an hid upgrade on your headlight first...

You can check out TrailTech, Vision X, LaserStar, and some other HID/LED options. Right now the LED are the hot ticket and have the lowest amp draw so you won't be taxing your electrical system much.
The HID OEM headlight replacement is a good option, but technically is not legal in some states. I run them in other bikes, but not the Hyper and they are great and fairly cheap.
Out!

I run a pair of Vision X Solstice LEDs on mine mounted to the inner handguard mounts with small custom brackets. I'm extremely pleased with these. Lots of white light (approx the same output as a 50W halogen), no heat, low power (10W ea) and very durable high quality construction. I run these on all the time, night and day, they are virtually burn out proof. Lite guage wire and no relay required (for a pair at least) make installation easy. I rode last night, over 40 miles on dark mountain critter infested backroads, and had enough coverage to feel totally comfortable. I would never ride like this with just the stock headlight. The headlight is useless, and if it blows out you may not even notice with the VisionX lights on.
All HID kits for the stock headlight do is throw a lot of scattered light, attract the attention of the cops, and eventually fail (unless you get a top quality kit not a cheap Chineese one). OEM reflectors are not designed for HIDs, and the Hyper's is crap anyway. I looked into the Trailtech integrated HID lights but do the research, they have a horrible reliability record.
LEDs are the way to go on the Hyper, if you need more light than a pair gives you can link more together. That Glenda light likely has the same emmiter as the VisionX, but costs 4x as much because its sold as a Ducati accessory.

Whoa! Thanks for the pointers, Glenn. I may just have to mount a set of those myself.

I'm usually not a stickler for ounces on motos, but that looks like unsprung weight, and that can make a difference.

Not going to make one iota of difference on the street. If they make your trip home safer they're a performance increase...
