fuel pump

one simple question
is there any way that a fuel pump has something wrong with it , IF:
when the bike is running - it runs fine

only issue is "PUMP ERROR" appears on dash and fuse keeps blowing .

in other words

can a pump simply draw too much current , enough to blow a fuse but only sometimes?

In general, yes.

Several things can cause something like that to include bearing failure and/or balance issues. The added resistance in the spinning of the rotor would cause a higher than normal amperage draw, possibly blowing the fuse.

I don't know if our bikes have a constant current to the fuel pump (I wouldn't think so), but if they did, it would explain you disconnecting/reconnecting and being able to run without blowing a fuse. otherwise, I'm not sure why that action would make a difference with a faulty pump.

I hope I helped.

If it is bad they will likely try and hit you for a complete flange assy for around $900 as that is the way Ducati sells it, which is fucking crazy. Be smart, say no thanks, and buy the pump alone from CA cycleworks or Desmotimes for $150 and do it yourself.

You guys will never guess what was causing the issue.... I have a ca cycle works tank and when i put it on and put the tank bracket on , it was on so tight that it was cutting into the wire of the fuel pump so they repaiared it but i need to modify the bracket or put spacers on it so it hold the tank down but doesn't touch the wires.....so stupid ....

The first step to recovery is admitting guilt. The second is admitting that it sometimes pays to read the directions.

Out!

it was def my fault . but i feel that CA cycleworks could have provided a bracket that fit better than stock

Oh, nice!!

Come'on now. You installed the tank, don't blame the manufacturer.

If Ducati had made the bracket bigger, (anticipating that you would install a larger tank, then not check your work to make sure that you didn't pinch any wires), then you wouldn't have had that problem.......

Glad it turned out ok.

Dave

but theres really no way around no pinching wires in this setup - i think the canal for the wiring in the tank should be deeper or they should have provided a better bracket ......other than that its my fault
