My awsome to awful first Track day

Yesterday I did my first track day at High Plains Raceway. And it was, for the most part, sweet. I was grinding pegs (and boots) all day and was even starting to get my knee down. Then on one session I was on the back straight when out of no where my front slides out and throws me over the handle bars. Its not too often you crash on a straight away with constant throttle but I guess that's my luck.

Anyway I landed strait on my visor/helmet and rolled and slid for about 60 yards (I was going around 100 at that part of the track for most of the day, I dont know exactly how fast when I crashed). My Arai saved my life 100% and the docs say I've got a bad concussion and some pulled muscles in my neck. The A-stars leathers did their job also, I've only got one bad bruise/cut on my leg from initial contact. The bike is incredibly pretty much good to go, it just slid on the left side and only broke the mirror and handguard but I've already got a new one.

The only causes I can think of are something slippery on the track or maybe the front end came up a bit then down awkward, though I didnt feel it come up.

The crash was probably the most unlucky thing to ever happen to me but the resulting injuries and damage were incredible lucky. It could be A LOT worse.

holy shit.

Glad you're OK. Get back on the bike as soon as possible.

On same note, I was f'n around the other day and i pulled the front up in 3rd, problem was when the front tire came down it was on a slight angle. Normally not a problem but i was decel'n and leanin into a corner at the same time. Front end shook and i allmost got a tank slapper. I know i need to bump the steering dampner to the top of the list. Slipper clutch 2nd.

You're right it could have been a lot worse, especially going down at triple digit speeds. Glad you are ok and I must admit you have a great attitude. Hope you and the hyper get up and running soon!

Wow man, glad to hear you came out as well as you did (that goes for the bike as well). I'm doing my first track day this Friday and have to say, i'm nervous as hell for something like this to happen. But then again, it's goes to show that proper gear saves lives. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that, I don't even like riding on the street and consider the track a safer place, but these unfortunate accidents happen. Good luck with the recovery.

get back on it and ride. did my first track days since 86 this weekend at summit point short course (jefferson) but i didn't have the balls to take the hyper out. beat the CBR pretty hard though. it's fun to ride when you consider a bike disposable. all i had to think about was not to hit one of the other ten or so people on the track.

Your new nick-name is: 'High Plains Drifter'
Really glad you're okay and the bike too.
Good gear only helps if you're wearing it.
Good for you! Thank gawd for ice and Vicodin!
Cheers!
