Pump Error ( fuse)
anyone know why my fuel pump fuse keeps on blowing ? i checked the wiring to the fuel pump and looks good .
the other day i was on the highway and all of a sudden my bike had no power and check engine light came on , i pulled over and looked at the dash and it said pump error so i check the fuse and thats what the problem was . i changed the fuse and i was on my way , a few mins later it happened again. changed the fuse and the bike worked , then it happened again but this time when i changed the fuse , it would blow as soon as i turned the power on . i went thru 6 fuses and still didnt work . finally i unplugged the wire going from the fuel pump to the wire harness and plugged it back it , changed the blown fuse and it worked , i was able to get home . now i dont trust my bike until ducati looks at it.
this happened once before so since then i carry fuses.
i feel it could either be the wire coming from the fuel pump or the fuel pump itself . i dont know what else could be causing this .
any suggestions? it going to ducati on tues for this and for 7500mi service . i just wanna be somewhat prepared so that when i talk to the tech i can give him a better idea as to what to look for .
thanks

Tell me how bad of an idea this is , carry a slightly larger rated fuse say a 12 where it calls for a 10, If it keeps blowing well try the bigger one only as a tempoary fix , just to get you home ....
Tempoary unless it works that is...

Bad idea.
What he has been doing has been working for getting him home. Fuses are sized the way they are for a reason.

I'm leaning towards the pump or the connection to the pump.
If you disconnected the pump, then just reconnected it and all was well again, basically, you (apparently unknowingly) isolated the problem from the connection to the pump.
Now, it could be either end of the connector, the wiring to the pump or the pump itself.
Armed with this info, the Tech should have an easy time diagnosing this issue.

+1 bad connections can cause high amperage draw.
Maybe water got in the connector and caused a short. Been through rain or washed it recently?
