Clutch Life?
What is everyone getting for clutch life out of their hypers?
Mine was making a weird noise every once in a while pulling away from a stop so I pulled it apart today. This is my first bike with a dry clutch, but at 11,000 miles the plates look pretty shot to me and the basket looks like its on the way out. Here are pics:
Most the wear plates measured at .115"~2.92 mm, the pack came in at 1.516"~38.5 mm. Going by the manual the plates still have a bit of life in them, but the overall pack is way under spec. What is the new thickness of these parts?
Also, an old motocross trick was to just file the clutch baskets smooth again. Is anyone doing this? What is everyone running for aftermarket clutch baskets?

Rather than using file on the basket take one steel plate from the back of the pack (should be two together at the start of the pack) and move it to the outside thereby shuffling the friction plates along one position, Now they will be working on the new part of the basket slots.
When I get the "strange" noise I use breakclean on the friction plates and scotchbrite on the steel plates to clean them up. Does wonders!! Factory max clearance tolerance for the gap between the friction tang and the basket slot is 0.6mm or 0.024". Your look a little shot there.
Mine have been at 0.6mm for 6000 mls now due to the quiet clutch mod which also extends clutch life so you change the frictions when they go below the 2.8mm tolerance rather than the when the tangs are beaten to death
Not sure on the pack thickness tolerance off hand sorry

Yes, you can smooth the tabs with a file, on the clutch basket tabs, this will help the plate movements, for a smoother clutch, but keep in mind that the space gets bigger and will create more noise, and the dents will come back sooner.
I use a Barnett clutch basket, they have stainless steel inserts over the tabs to prevent the "denting" and they run quieter as well. Aloha Alex

Wow is that normal for Duc clutches? That doesn't seem like a very long time.

Looks like there are a few options for replacement.
1- I could just file down the current basket and stick a new clutch pack in it for about $150. Not sure how much life is really left in the basket, I would expect under 6000 miles. The Barnett packs seem to have lots of issues though with fit and slipping.
2-New Pro-cutting basket and Barnett pack for $462. Basket supposedly has tighter tolerances.
3- EVR 48T basket with pack for $459. Can I use this with all the other stock clutch parts and cover?
4-Barnett basket and pack for $345, has the stainless on the edges of the basket to improve life.
The EVR seems like the way to go, times the surface area on the basket for the plates hitting so I would think it would last much longer, not sure on the plates themselves though. Does anyone have any experience with those? I'm just looking for life/cost.

Holy shit! I've got 23,000 miles on my Hyper, and my clutch looks like new. -Well, it's a little worn, but NOTHING like that. Damn!

IDK if thats normal or not... Its just normal for me. on previous wet clutch bike (r6,r1,zr7) I have pulled about 15K out of the clutch.
I think I tend to be kinda hard on them
