What oil are you guys running in the Hypermotard and some service questions.
Hey guys well the time has finally come, I got my HM, well almost, Im picking it up tomorrow.
I have a couple of questions regarding the bike. Im new to Ducati and always had Jap bikes, so excuse my ignorance or lack of knowledge.
What oil are you guys running? I searched but really didnt find anything on the subject and im sure the manual states which to use but was wondering if you guys have experienced something that works better. What viscosity and brand you guys using?
Also I have always worked on my own bikes and was a little concerned about the first service. I personally have never taken my bikes to get serviced at the dealer for a couple of reasons. Its no so much about the money but because of the poor service I have seen through my years of riding, and quite frankly I think I would do a better job. Few people touch my bikes.
What is done to the first service besides an oil change, adjusting the chain and checking for lose bolts? Anything I should know that the HM requires?
Also I know for a fact that with Jap bikes doing ur own service doesnt void warranty but just want to make sure how is the deal with Ducati`s.
Wanted to thank all you guys for the info you provide on this forum and hope to be welcomed and have a friendly journey with my HM forum buddies

I would think its the same oil, what are you using?
I would also say the torque settings for the chassis, as far as wheels, forks and other basic things are the same. Still good to have, thanks

Don't get discouraged. Nobody is ignoring you on purpose. It's just that the moderators have spun into tizzys in the past simply because someone started yet another oil thread without doing a search.
It used to be fun to mess with them because of that and under the right circumstances, it still is.
My best advice would be to check out the Oil forum further down the list from the Hyper forum and to also do a search on this forum. I tried and the only way I could get results from searching the Hyper forum was to search using "Oil Type" as my qualifier.
Watch for any posts made by someone called "Shazzam"(sp?). The man is truely knowledgeable and ...um...wordy...but he lays it all out there so that you can make the most informed decisions.
FWIW, I used a high-end synthetic (brand not important) but that's going to stop as due to unforseen circumstances, I changed the oil three times in 150 miles and the total bill for that came to over $150 in oil alone.
Good luck with your searching,
Dave

I think the 10's have a different manufacturer for their electrics. I'd hate to point you toward a manual that MAY not have the correct information. But I would think you are correct about chassis torque specs.

Greetings and welcome.
I ran Amsoil for the first three oil changes and now I went to Motul. I had probably had about 10 missed shifts (down shiftsfrom 6 to 5) and after I switched to Motul, not one in about 1000 miles.....I may be crazy, but the bike seems to run smoother, but not cooler with the motul.
Best regards,
Joe

I've always run Motul 5w40 full synthetic in my race bike ('07 R6) and am also curious what oil to use for the first service on my Duc since its coming up soon. Also, does everyone pretty much use the stock oil filter or some aftermarket brand (k&N)?
