Arai Tour X3 - Anyone use this
I am looking at buying (well nearly bought it this afternoon actually) this Arai but i havent had a motocross style lid before and i am wondering if they are noiser and make your head buffet around more due to the longer front and peak. Has anyone used this lid?
I have an Arai RX7RR which is a few years old and want to change but the RX7 is awesome and i dont want a lid that is going to be disappointing compared to it.

It's called the XD3 here in the states and several people use them.
Do a search on this site and you should find some info.
I think, IIRC, the general consensus was that it was good for around town type riding but for the long haul, some found the beak a bit tiresome. But don't take my word for it as I don't have one.

I went from a Quantum 2 to the earlier XD (not XD3).
Like the previous post, around town and in the twisties under 65 MPH it is fine.
Catching up to the superbike guys at 90-100 is not it's intended use. I have the side peices to remove the peak but I like to use it with when riding in the sun. There is more strain on your neck at higher speeds.
I have found it to be somewhat more noisy than the Quantum partially becasue the shield is flared on the rear edges to accomodate goggles.

I have the XD. It is pretty noisy, and 75mph (and/or crosswinds) will tear your head off. I'm currently shopping for a new lid because of this. (It is very comfy, though.) I've heard good things about the Icon Variant, but I haven't been able to find one near me to try on...

I have good ear plugs (Big Ear molded) and the noise is not an issue. The Arai is by far my favorite helmet.

Thanks guys i thought as much on the peak making it a strain on your neck over a certain speed. My RX7 is so comfy but 10 years old (sounds bad but its been rebuilt with new padding a few times and has a really trick one-off $1000 paint job, plus owning it from new i know how its been kept)
I think i will go for the TOUR X3, and use it without the peak on the S1000 and with the peak when i finally get the Hyper to use. Im considering the Hyper for commuting 20 miles everyday down twisties and a bit of dual carriageway. Would you say the Duc will be reliable enough for all weather riding, not owning one before and being around biking in the 90's when Italian bikes weren't known for reliability i dont want to make the wrong choice.
Nothing from Japan makes me want to spend money, only euro bikes really get me interested. The s1000 is ok but not my first choice bike, i dont want a GS1200 like everyone else has (these actually arent very reliable apparently) so my first choice is a Hypermotard (Hooligan bike, my kind of thing) But will it let me down doing 8000+ miles per year?

Had a look at the Tour X3 (XD3) again today and i noticed the vent holes in the chinbar are really badly cut out, not what i expected from ARAI. May have to think about this one now....
