Normal performance
Hey Guys,
Just purchased an 08 1100s from a guy that did the necessary ducati servicing however was more of a hooligan than you want when purchasing a bike. I took a chance and purchased it.
Ive had many bikes before however this is the first duc / larger displacement FI twin. Could someone describe what normal performance would be on a pretty much stock 1100s? I see to be getting a little hesitation at constant throttle near ~4k rpm. It seems to go through revs great, though. The power seems fairly modest and the idle idle also seems to be on the low side or just above which will keep it going.
That being said it was probably sitting awhile and probably run <1000 miles last year. Its had its 7500 check up (currently ~8300 miles). Everything was noted as being fine. This has also been the first new tank of gas since ive bought it.
Any suggestions please let me know. Unless I get some consensus i will probably bring her down to a nearby Ducati and see if they notice anything.
Thanks again, and proud to be a part of the community.

I've read somewhere (owners manual?) The flapper valve closes @ 3800 rpm for noise and the ECU changes from closed loop to open loop somewhere around 4000 rpm on stock systems. Welcome to the wonderful world of Hyper mod$

Thanks CDONA,
I figured this much as ive driven bikes with issues (faulty ignition, fuel starvation, etc.) And it doesnt seem to be a major issue.. Although like i said i am not familiar with the bike.
Could anyone confirm this on a stock setup?
Regards,
Dan

Possibility what CDona said plus old gas??
Get a couple of tanks through it and it will probably clear up. Between the gas and the fact that motors like to be run, not sit for years, it will probably start running better with a bit more time and miles.

Greetings,
I think the best bang for the buck is the 14T countershaft sprocket, next on the cost meter is the nichols flywheel, then the full termi kit.....
I will let you know my opinion regarding the cams in the fall.
Best regards,

I disagree. Intake and Exhaust are the most integral mods for this bike. Stacks Stacks Stacks do it do it now.

More Air In and Out = Performance
The 14T sprocket will move the powerband lower and make for semi-better low end performance. But it will lower the bike overall speed, especially the top end speed. When your dealing with a bike with less 80 horsepower, it will be noticeable.
The lighter flywheel will let the bike rev up faster, but if your not using a slipper clutch what's really the point?
Getting more air/fuel into the bike and removing any exhaust restrictions is by far the best and cheapest performance upgrades you can do.
Cut that airbox open or replace it with stacks (pod filters). Remove that cat and flapper valve, then core the exhaust. You might need a PowerCommander to manage the air/fuel balance, but the performance will be there.
