Sportmax rear w/ a BT016 front ok?

Yo forum ! .... Trying to plan ahead on tires .... I have about 1900 miles on my 796 w/BT016's .... rear is starting to flat as I have been riding it to work now @ 40mi round trip ..... A good local dealer does not carry BT at all. They have all the Michelins and Dunlops available. The dunlop Sportmax Q2's profile seemed to match the BT016 ..... could I go with the Sportmax and then match up a set next year ?

I appreciate your comments.

have you considered using a BT021 rear? You could buy one on the net and have your dealer install it for you. The BT021 is a multi compound sport touring compound. I've used one with the BT14 that came stock on my hyper. I even made it work through a track day riding in the A class. The Sport touring tire should last about as long as a super sport front. Especially considering that you do as much commuting as you do.

For primarily commuting I don't think you'll notice a difference with the 'unmatched' Bridgestone/Dunlop pairing. However, I also highly recommend the BT021 for the road. Chaparral has good deals with free shipping, although your local shop probably charges a bit more to mount tires brought in.

I like a matched set personally, I figure they engineers must have had a plan for that during design. I would swap the old set out for a new set of Q2s and sell the others to someone for a few bucks. Somebody always needs a track tire or two.

Out!

Cool comments, Thank You. I know this shop chrages $30 to mount a tire bought there. Not sure if more for a tire I walk in w/. There is another shop that may carry the BT021 ... I have time to explore my options.

After 1900 learning miles I am at the edge of my BT016 rear profile. Still have unused room on the front though. Yesterday I had my right foot scrub in a corner for the first time .... Curves are a hoot ! .... First time you heard that right
