Hyper Wisdom Needed
So after a very long decision between the 848 and the hypermotard, I have finally decided to go with the hyper. I have a few questions before I can settle on which model to purchase though. I have done some searching and research but have not been able to answer every question.
I'm looking at the '08-'09 S and the '10 SP.
I can sit on the SP just fine but prefer the lower height of the S model. My question is can I lower the ride height about an inch by playing with the rear shock without upsetting the chassis and suspension? Or, would it be better if I just live with it while I get an aftermarket seat that is shallower?
This is kind of a loaded question but I am interested in hearing some opinions. I like the high end parts on the SP (and S) and the new design of the Evo so I would prefer the SP. But, if for some reason the SP were unavailable and I had to go with either the S or the standard Evo, what would you consider more valuable- the higher end parts on the S (Brembo Monobloc, for instance) or the updated design of the standard Evo?
I would appreciate any information.
Thanks in advance,
LowSider.

Anytime you mess with ride heights, you mess with handling. If you lower both front and rear equally, you mess with the center of gravity. If you lower just the front or just the rear, you mess with the "attitude" of the chassis and can possibly do considerable changes to the overall handling.
IMHO, if you can "deal" with the height as it is, then I would wait for a lower seat so that you can be more comfortable on the bike. Without making changes like lowering it, the bike will handle as it was intended.

Yes, it is a loaded question.
You will get many different answers and they will be just each persons opinion, so here's mine.
I think the way they lightened the 2010 bikes is the biggest advantage to them vs. the 2008/2009 bikes. The extra "5 HP" that they claim doesn't really mean as much unless you were going to keep it 100% stock.
That said, I wanted the Brembo Monoblocks and the Forged wheels. That meant the most to me when I was looking at the end of last year. The only thing that I would suggest you plan on doing that will make the MOST radical change in the direction of the 2010 bikes is the lighter weight flywheel. This can be had from Ducshop for $75 (machining the one you supply them) and will make the bike feel like it lost 20+ lbs. The 2010 bikes, come with the lightweight flywheels.
Good luck,
Dave

Thanks for the help. Every bit takes me closer to the final desicion. I should be in the hyper club by the end of the week!
Is there a good site that has most available aftermarket parts for the hyper? I already looked at shopducati.com. Any other good ones I should check into?
Thanks again.

I saved like $1,300 buying A new full exhaust off ebay. The rest of the stuff I bought for my bike was from the site sponsor's

Everyone thought I was crazy when I was comparing the 848 to the hyper...Because they're two very class of bikes. Torquey-air cooled-up right-supermoto vs a revvy (for a twin) superbike....
I went with the Hyper, and couldn't be happier. I do plan on several track days a year, and it seems you're not really focused on that. For height, the hyper is adjustable without changing pre-load on the rear shock between all years of S's and the EVO SP.
In reality, you won't need the "pizazz" of the S/EVO SP model on the street. The mono blocks are great, the rear shock is really only marginally better, but the wheels are awesome.
Will you benefit them? not in the slightest. It really isn't worth the extra $$ when buying brand new. I personally was looking for a non S, and planned on several suspension upgrades that would have taken me beyond the S.
I ended up with a very clean used '08 S...The price was right inline with all the base models I found so I hopped on it.
You can find base models lightly modded from 8k-10k..and S's usually in the 10.5-13K range.

With the S is you go for the race seat it will lower the seat height a bit, maybe somebody can comment on the height difference. You of course have the adjustable link on the back, but I have never changed mine, but Dave covered it I think.

Think I am going to try and make a deal on a SP tomorrow. Seems to be everything I want and with the comfort seat, it will be the height I want too.
I will probably end up taking it on the track from time to time. But I do have a devoted race bike for racing and track days.
I will definitely appreciate the higher end parts and they won't hurt in the case of resale either.
I am sure I will have more questions about upgrades and modifications in the future.
Thanks for all the information, everyone.

Does anyone know if the DP racing seat that fis the 08 S model will fit the 2010 evo SP? I saved the seat from my written off model.

I have an 08S and would buy it again for the new Evo or SP mainly because I think Siemens Electronics are crap. Magnetti Marelli all the way baby.
*note the comfort seat is lower than the stock.
