Replacement chain
I was cleaning and lubing the chain today and noticed a few links are extremely hard to move. I decided that I should measure the stretch and found that it was about 257.5mm over the 16 links that the manual calls for 256.5. I have a little over 10,200 miles on the bike and have always kept the chain tensioned correctly and lubed. I also noticed about 7000 miles little pieces of the o-rings were beginning to come out around the links.
So I am in the market for a new chain before next weekend at the track. Any suggestions? I am used to off-road bikes with master links and clips. Do I need to use rivets? I don't want to spend more than a reasonable price, but I won't be cheap either.
Thanks

Most all name brand O ring chains are good, D.I.D, RK, etc. and you have to buy or borrow a rivet tool to install the master link. Aloha Alex

I ran the clip until I got the chain tool from backorder then installed the rivet type. Clip went to the tool kit. Master link or rivet link

I would run rivets, but I doubt you would have problems with a clip. I probably wouldn't do a new chain unless I did sprockets at the same time. I just got a new RK and sprockets from JCPakbikes and he gave me a good deal.
You can get a Motion Pro chain tool or one from Harbor Freight for a lot less $ and they work.
Out!

I will never do another clip style. I installed one on my track bike and safety wired it on. I was looking over my chain during lunch and noticed the rivet started to fail. Thank god for that little bit of safety wire. The rivet has now worked for over 3k track miles.

DID Z-VMX chain with Driven sprockets worked really well for me! Chain was a little pricey, but it Seems like a great product. It is so much quieter than my old chain! (It is a rivet style chain) Just watch out when you rivet it on that you rivet it as little as you need to, so you do not have it too tight!
