Advice needed
Hello all!
I'm new to this forum, but I have been ghosting it for some time now.
I'm also new at bikes (considering im 19 yo kinda normal xD).
I would like to ask advice on buying first bike to all the wisdom that seems to be around here lol! ^^
I was looking into supermotards first (crf's, husqvarna's etc...) but that isn't really what I need, because i'm looking for a bike for long distances too!
Man I love the Hypermotard, I can't stop looking at it!!!!
In my case (budget and stuff) I would go for a matt black HM796 (with the C&C big tank)... Good idea for a starting bike?? Or too much to handle?
I was also looking into the KTM SM690R... (cheaper I think than HM?)
All info from you guys, riding for all these years out there, is more than welcome!
Much appreciated thanks!
(sorry for my newbee thread ^^)

Belgians are supposed to be evil... so that leaves us with extorting the funds to purchase one or killing for one.

True story... I spend too much cash on belgian beer anyway ^^
Leaves me with, doing something about the beer addiction, or go out killing someone for a HM... Dilemma

As long as you can afford new tires I don't see why not. Nothing on or for this bike is cheap.(like belgian beer in the states)

I got my new 796 this week, it's a kick in the pants. If I was in your position I would probably get a cheep-o bike, something I could drop on the ground a few hundred times and not cry about, that's just me though. If this really is your dream bike, definitely go for it, I think it would be a wonderful first bike.

I think almost ANY bike over a 400cc is too much for almost anyone's first, especially a ducati as they seem to be a little on the "unsophisticated" side imo. You want something cheap and easy, then get the bike you really want BWTFDIK, I've only been riding 30 years and owned 50+ bikes. BRAAAPP

don't make your first bike your 'ultimate' bike. Get something that's a good deal to learn on, and then work toward picking up something you really love...
If you buy the starter bike right, you'll get your money back out of it!

Get what moves you. Don't worry about the rest. Grand Dad really liked the Belgians when he was there in the 40's.

That KTM 690 got some pretty decent reviews and have been around a couple years now. I would thing since it is a single cylinder and the overall weight/size is manageable, it wouldn't be a bad starter bike. If you could find a used one for a good price, it might be just the ticket.
Remember, you could also supermoto an XR650 and it would be a bike you can beat the hell out of and find used for a decent price. It is a little tall, but no more so more than all the other "dirt bike" based supermotos.
Also, Yamaha and Suzuki make an off the shelf supermoto and they are also bullet proof rides and would be good starters.
Out!
