K&N oil filter problems?
Anyone ever have any or know of any problems with K&N oil filters leaking oil everywhere? Not just on Ducati's but on any bike?

Yes that happens when you put too much oil on it.
The only bike I have currently with a K&N is my BMW R1150R and I always notice a tiny oil puddle underneath right after I clean and oil the filter.

He is talking oil filter, you are talking air filter............at least it appears that way.
I have used several K&N oil filters on at least three different bikes and never had any issues. The reason I buy them is because of the nut on the end and you can torque them proper torque wrench. If you overtighten any filter, you run the risk of tearning, compressing, or wrinkling the rubber gasket it can cause a leak. You would be surprised how little torque is used to seat a filter properly according to mfg specs.
Out!

Hehe you are right AXE. My bad.
I actually just happened to use K&N oil filter for the first time on my CBR600RR and I have not had any problem whatsoever. And yes the nut is very nice. Yeah the torque spec is very low. Pretty much hand tight.

Yes I was talking about the oil filter.
I just helped a friend change his oil on his 06 CBR600RR. I did tighten it down with a wrench but not superman style. It is very hard to get you hands to the filter on a CBR. Anyways he left and about 15 to 20 miles into his ride it started spewing oil all over the place. Lucky for us he was at a red light when it happened.
So is this common for these filters? I have never had a filter do this before and I have changed a lot of oil over the years. On many different types of vehicles. This is however the 1st time I used a K&N. More than likely the last too.

No problems here, dry with 3300+ miles on the current filter.

The K&N filter oil filter is as good and better than most other oil filters, I'll bet when he took off the old oil filter, the sealing rubber ring from the filter may have stuck to the motor, and when he installed the new one there was now a "double" gasket, which can hold for a while until they slip apart, then spewing oil, a employee of mine did just this to his van, and it cost him an engine. Aloha Alex

I never had an issue with a K&n oil or airfilter, lways fit perfect and do teir job well.
I would tell you to just double check that the rubber ring from the previous filter was actually removed and you didn't install the K&n over top of the old one, that happens and can lead to your exact problem, check it out... just a thought.

the last two that I had to replace, I couldn't remove using the nut. It sounds as if I am overtorqueing the filter by the advise of other responses. I never have any problems using them on my R6 track bike. They are very nice running safety wire too also.
