motion pro vr "revolver" throttle kit
just assembled the motion pro vr revolver throttle kit that i picked up yesterday from motion pro offices (grazie mille larry).
http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/..._throttle_kits
i installed the black cam that comes with the kit (there are 4 cams included), as the black cam is the closest to the stock ducati OEM throttle cam ... and until i get used to the slightly quicker throttle that the black cam provides over the stock cam, i will NOT go with the more aggressive cams included in the kit. when i checked out the display stand motion pro has to demo the 4 different cams, the quickest cam is almost like an light switch ... on/off ... so as i don't want to kill myself on the test run, i will work my way up through the various cams. i am guessing that the quicker cams will be good for track days only, and not so much fun for street riding.
the quality of all the parts in the kit are top-notch ... from the fully adjustable cables (which is where motion pro got their start in the business) all the way through to the grips.
fwiw, i had to swap out the kit's stock throttle sleeve and grips to the shorter "dirt bike" grips and throttle sleeve that motion pro offers, as i have the zeta bars, hand guards kit installed along with crg bar end mirrors. the zeta bars rise bend did not leave enough room for the longer "stock" sleeve to fit with all these other items installed. this is cool, as i am more used to shorter dirt bike grips anyway.
i will install the whole system on the hypertard in a day or so (still suffering from a cold i picked up at the infinion AMA races this past weekend), and will post up photos and a ride report then.
ciao,
johnc

Looks like a nice mod. I ran a 60 degree throttle on my DRZ supermoto and loved it. Looking forward to pics and ride review. Thanks.

Is there any information relating the size of the reels to degrees of rotation?
Thanks for any input!

Subscribed. I'm very curious to see how you like the kit. I may pick one up if it seems decently designed.

I do not see the Hypermotard listed are all of the Ducati superbike kits the same? If not which did you get? I was thinking about getting the Dan Kyle throttle tube, but this looks to be a more flexible product.
Looking forward to seeing it in person if I ever get to go home and ride.

do not see anything on reel size/rotation ratio on either the motionpro.com site, or the instruction sheet that came with the kit ... but i know that the motoshops around here in the bay area that carry motionpro products have a demo stand from motionpro that has 4 VR revolver throttles, one for each of the reel sizes, mounted on a backboard that also has throttle butterflies mounted. you can then twist each throttle to see the twist required to fully open the butterfly.

ciao lelen -
you are correct ... motionpro.com site does not have the kit listed yet ... larry @ motionpro hooked me up with one of the first production kits.
i would suggest that anyone interested in the VR revolver kit for their hypertard, should contact motion pro directly, using their contact info @:

ok ... seem to be over the flu/cold i caught up an infinion AMA races enough to work on the hypertard ... so went down to the garage and installed the motion pro vr revolver throttle kit earlier today.
first impression during installation: this is a very hight quality kit ... each part is really nicely made, and the fit and finish is excellent.
i have the zeta low motard bars, hand guards and crg lane splitter mirrors installed ... so i had to go with the motion pro dirt bike grips and throttle tube, as it is about 1/4 inch shorter in overall length than the road grips/throttle tube. besides, i grew up racing dirt bikes, so these grips are more familiar to me, and feel more comfortable.
removing the stock throttle assembly was pretty straight forward, and installing the new throttle assembly was easy as well. the motion pro system has in-line cable adjustments right up by the throttle housing, so getting the cables adjusted for almost zero slack was very simple.
have not had a chance to ride the hypertard yet (still not 100% over the flu/cold) ... so don't have a ride impression yet ... but, after installation, and checking cable routing at full lock side-to-side to make sure there was no binding ... i started the hypertard up, and just static feel of the throttle is much smoother, and requires much less turn to hit WFO (did not do the WFO twist while motor was running).
fwiw, i went with the blue reel in the throttle housing to start testing. there is one reel that has a smaller diameter than the blue reel, and two more that have larger diameters ... so i can get even less throttle twist to WFO if i need to.
ciao,
johnc
