Highway Running temperature

OK After searching and finding threads from tires to Oil Coolers to guys making fun of people asking...

What I've not found is the expected running temp at highway speeds and stop and go traffic.

Fully understand that temp where I am driving will effect it, but can someone tell me what low temp and high temp is and what they're getting when running 65 - 75 mph Highway speeds versus stop and go (reasonable amounts of go) in 90 degree temps?

I fully admit to limiting my knowledge to liquid cooled bikes and off road without gauges, so just looking for answers.

I am sitting in the 220 - 230 range on the freeway at 75ish... That's hotter than my other bikes and frankly I dont know what I should be looking at.

It's AZ, so it's only up from here.

thats fine for az they are capable of getn 280 and above with no damage mine in 100+ weather usually stays 190 to 210 but have got it to 235 240 in stop an go traffic.when being ran hard at the track they can really climb up there but basically you dont have anything to worry about at that temp.

Mine usually is about 200-210 commuting. 220-235 if I'm pushing her hard on my spirited weekend rides.

I can get up around 235 in 90 degree heat with some humidity during stop and go and dead stop traffic with a lot of idling. I generally run 190-210 in the same temps while steady riding.

I hit 246 during a 90 degree high humidity track day. I short shifted after that.

I get 230-240 in stop and go traffic, running down the hiway is about 195-220 and thats in 90+ degree heat. Track days I've seen 230-240, so far nothing above that.

Remember too that you are looking at OIL temp not WATER temp. Oil can take more temp than water so don't expect the temps to look like a water cooled bike.

gotcha. Makes me feel a little better.

I may still get the SC oil cooler, but it sounds like the bikes where it's compfortable.

I'm usually anywhere betwixt 200 and 250 depending on ambient temps and types of riding. I've seen as high as 260 riding stop and go through the city on a hot day. I asked the local shop about it and they said these things can reliably handle even higher temps than that. Don't they have a kill switch in case they get too hot?

Greetings,

My temps are in line with yours. Fresh oil seems to keep the temps a little cooler, Fresh oil on a 90 degree ride yielded about 220 degrees oil temp. Oil with about 1000 miles starts to climb about 5 degrees. I change oil every 1500 miles,

Best regards,

Joe

those coolers are neat looking but ive heard they only make a 5 to 7 degree difference...i would save the 600 bucks and only replace if you get damage to stock one.

for fun today on the ride home. 260 miles. i varied my speed to see what the temp would do. up to about 75 temp stayed about 210. at 80 steady for 20 miles temp stayed 221-222. 90 steady 222. 100 steady 221. ran out of courage after that so someone else will have to do further testing. i saw no troopers in 150 miles on the ny thruway. that has got to be a first.

ps. 100 steady for 15 minuits will beat you.
