14T sprocket for 796 out yet?
Hi All:
The dealer gave me 96824701B 14 tooth countershaft sprocket. I am looking to replace the 15T. I think the bike is geared for the track and not tight twisties.
Anyway, the sprocket did NOT fit. The original has a clip retainer and the replacement uses a nut. The dealer has called back to Ducati, but they are all out at the Multistrata event. I did not realize a simple sprocket change could be such a big deal.
Still learning about the Ducati system. Incredible owners manual, which did not give instructions to change oil or adjust the chain. The dealer gave me the shop manual CD with the purchase and it just arrived in time for me to do the 600 mile service.
Funny story: I did not think to read the manual on changing the sprocket. When I pulled out the last bolt on the spocket cover, the kickstand swung away and the bike dropped on top of me.
And then of course, the sprocket did not fit and the whole thing is parked in the garage and I am back to riding a Honda.

You need the older style sprocket as used on all superbikes previous to the 999. It was also used on two valve models previous to the release of the DS1000 motor.
They gave you a sprocket for a HYM1100.
First time I changed an S2R1000 rearset I did the same thing. Luckily my head broke the bike's fall.

Hope your can find one of those older styled ones then cause getting anything from DNA or overseas requires huge patience right now....
I am riding mine the way it came.... for now.

Driven makes my favorite front sprocket with cool cross-drilling, but the Afam is a good deal cheaper and can be had through the big wholesale books. Should be a snap. Most dealers still stock them since the 696 Monster uses them in addition to the above mentioned models.
Hell I probably have one in my basement from my 748's many lives...520 or 525?

Still waiting for official Duc response on 14T
The 796 is 525 size and the Monsters are 520. The dealer has found no "official" 14T solution even after several tries with the factory.
I will go try that JT and Driven suggestions.
Thanks,
joe

JT says no!
Here is the response I got from JT for 14T 794 applications:
Joe,
I'm sorry but we are not currently producing front sprockets for that application.
Best Regards

JCPakbikes is a forum sponsor. Find JC and send him a PM for some support. He was good to work with and hooked me up with a new front/rear Supersprox combo and an RK chain for a great price recently. I would bet he can help out.
By the way, you could consider going up a couple of teeth on the rear too and achieve similar results. I can't recally if the stock chain is long enough, but JC may know.
I experienced the kickstand phenomena when taking off the rearsets to have them powdercoated..................managed to hold the bitch up by one hand and get my knee below the seat just in time.
Out!
