New Hyper owner!
Loving the bike so far! Previously had a KTM 450 SMR street legal. Was a fun bike but the hyper is much more practical... Just not as flickable... at all.
Came from this... 230 lbs over 55 RWHP
And the new hyper... All stock besides performance seat 1,500 miles
Picked it for $8,500 - I think I got a good deal!
Still not used to it that much. I did 120 miles yesterday and love the torque and the powerband. I found it doesn't like being lugged under 3,000 RPM. Also found that rev limited comes up very quickly. I think I was on one wheel for a good part of my first 120 miles although it does feel pretty heavy to wheelie at first.
Not sure if I need to adjust the suspension some or I am just not used to the bike but it feels very strange at low speeds. What I am describing is very front heavy and the bike wanting to turn in. I probably just need to get used to how it handles but right now it is alittle strange. No huge plans for the bike just going to enjoy it as is for now and eventually do a 2-1 Exhaust and other little things I am sure.

Welcome, and congrats on the Hyper purchase.
It's a very normal feeling if you've been used to such a light bike with excellent suspension like WP.
The geometry of the 'Hyper' is different to a 'real' supermotard and the forks are like jelly in comparison.
A lot of times I ride my supermotard and hyper back to back, and the hyper feels down right horrible in comparison, and you have to ride the hyper like a sports bike, not like a 'real' tard.
You probably need to set up your sag first front and rear for your weight, there's a million threads here on how to so do a search.
I reckon your tucking in is coming from the front being too soft and rear to stiff which is exactly opposite to supermotard set up which is what your used to.
My hyper front end still feels like it wants to tuck under a little even after I've stiffened up the front heaps and backed the rear off, but it's a shit load better than when I first rode it.
They're a lot more practical though, just having an ignition key is a real bonus hey?
All the best.

Hey firstarsbrnwhite,
Yes, you did get a good deal! I was the guy who walked in a little too late (DAMN NYC traffic!!) as you were counting the money out on the kitchen table. Let me tell you it was a long, sad ride back to brooklyn without that bike.
I was so distraught I had to run out and get a new EVO which I am enjoying the hell out of but I still always think about that great deal that got away.
Enjoy the bike, hopefully we will cross paths again on the road.
-Chief.
attached is how I have been numbing the pain from the loss...

Ah no way! I felt for you on that one! glad to see you coped with the pain the correct way. We always ride up in Harriman state park/ Bear Mtn. Im sure we will cross paths some day. How are you liking the Evo? Im liking the hyper alot already put 1000 miles on it. Just need to get the suspension dialed in.

What motor work did you have done to make 55 rwhp out of that 450? I spent a good amount of time doing port work just to get my old 250SX-SM to make 49whp and it ate the 450's alive. Then again, it was also 190lbs.

I'm loving the evo, most fun I've had on two wheels. I just passed 600 and need to get it serviced...the joys of breaking in a new bike
I also get up to that area as much as I can. That picture was taken on the way up storm king highway. I actually did a loop up there today. I will definitely be checking for you when I'm in the area.
ride safe.

hey... new hyper owner here too just picked up a 2010 hypermotard 796 about a week ago. Completely agree, they are the most fun you can have on two wheels! I came from riding a sportbike before (CBR 600RR) so i think the transition went a little more smoother than you coming from a real supermoto. The 796 also luggs at anything below 3 grand. I herd that the very popular "airbox mod" helps to open that up and run a little smoother. Is that the case? Sorry to jump in on the thread but read it and was courious! Thanks!
