Where to Get Crash Damage repaired, SF Bay Area

I guess I need to start thinking about where to get my bike fixed (click here for details). I don't think there's enough damage to total the Hyper, but I will need to invoke my insurance to get it fixed. Damage is mainly all the switchgear, brake reservoir mount, bleeder nipples on both master cylinders, right handguard/blinker/mirror, Fabbri flyscreen obliterated, tail rack for tail bag folded up, and a couple of nicks on the beak and right side panel. I guess I'll need to go to a dealer to get it done, so I'm looking for recommendations on who to use, who to avoid, etc. I'm in San Jose and would consider anyone within 75-100 miles since the bike will have to be trailered anyway. I'll try to post some pictures later of the damage as well.

Thanks in advance for the help!

big thumbs up for Desmoto Sports in SF. But make sure it's cool with the insurance co. they may want you to go to an official Ducati dealer/service place. Munroe is the next bet in SF.

damn dave ...

that'll buff right out

seriously, since your down here in the south bay ... nichols is the place. they do insurance work on a lot of bikes. either way your claim goes (fix it, or write off, with salvage title buy back option) ... nichols can get the bike checked out for possible frame damage, etc ... then fix it up if you so choose.

as for paint work ... bobby keith @ cycle finish is the best ... the touchups he did on my mh900e are perfect 9and on the mh, i am a perfectionist). bobby's shops is located in redwood city, just on boarder of menlo park, off marsh road. http://www.cyclefinish.net/

anyway, hope your feeling better ... the bike is not as bad looking as i had imagined, so i am certain you can get her back on the road one way or another.

ciao,
johnc

Thanks for the info, John! I'll give the guys at Nichols a call and see what they think. What work did Cycle Finish do and what did the charge for it on your MH? Obviously not an apples to apples comparison, but just so I can get a feel for cost. I'll ping them as well.

ciao david -

excellent ... give the folks at nichols a call, and if you can transport your hypertard there, they can really give it an examination and provide you with detailed summary of what needs to be done.

bobby's pricing is based on complexity and time and materials ... you really need to take him the parts and have him see what needs to be done. he's not the cheapest painter in california ... but he is one of, if not the, best. oh, and if you decide to get the parts repainted/touched up ... be prepared to wait ... bobby is always overbooked. besides, if you get insurance money for the plastic body bits, it will likely be for replacement parts, so no painting required.

finally, if you get replacement value on the stock hand guards/mirrors ... this will be a LARGE amount of money ... suggest replacing them with the zeta bars/hand guards/signals pricing package that christian pulled together for the hypertard group. http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthre...highlight=zeta

I went by Nichols today and talked with Mike for a while. Seems like a great shop and some good people there. i'm going to try and get it over there next week and let them get the estimate worked up and then figure out next steps from there.

From an aesthetic point of view I like the stock bar/mirror setup since it is unique, and one of the reasons I was drawn to the Hyper. But I must admit in day to day usage it's not that user friendly for commuting/lane splitting and ergonomic adjustability. I may go with the setup you have linked above, it seems to be more user friendly, and certainly narrower.

Hmm, I feel another red hole forming in my wallet.

ciao again david -

the zeta set up, coupled with crg lane splitter mirrors is the hot setup. much better than the stock setup ... although i agree with you that the stock mirror/hand guard set up is one of the nicer design elements of pierre's design.

I may want to take another look at your setup just to get a good visual image of how it all looks and fits. Will you be taking the Hyper to Santana Row Monday night? If so I'll try to come by and check it out, and have a beer with you guys.
