A simpler GPS mount
I was impressed with r60slash5's GPS install post ( Hypermotard GPS Mount) over the weekend. I wanted to do something similar but I wanted the GPS mounted near the instrument panel so I can take a quick glance at both. I did some searching and ran across this i.Trek bike mount (IG-B01A) on amazon.com. It mounts kind of like a giant zip tie and it seems to fit pretty snug. The location appears to be perfect too. It just came today so I haven't taken it out for a ride yet.
In the pictures the mount isn't quite pushed back far enough. After taking the pictures I pushed it back about 1/8th of an inch and it fit nicely inside the bar mount. It was only $12 and took 30 seconds to install.
Unfortunately the ball mount is made for the Garmin Nuvi series so it may not fit other Garmin units.

I've done almost the same thing. Only a little bit more permanent.
The Zumo 550 mount uses 4 screws. When the mount is placed on the handlebar the screws only clear the handlebar just.
I took a little piece of aluminium and drilled 4 holes in it for the screws. Placed the Zumo mount on top of the handlebar, put the screws in the mount and placed the aluminium plate beneath the handlebar so that screws would go through it. Used 4 nuts to thighten the whole thing. Solid as a rock!
Oh and one more thing, don't use the power from the blinkers for your Zumo. Because when you switch to LED blinkers your ZUMO doesn't get any power anymore. I had to reroute the power for the Zumo to the fuel pump.

Thats bike mods good, the steering damper on my bike is what made me go to the tank mount.

With a short arm RAM mount, ball just ouboard of the bar clamps, a Garmin Nuvi is almost centered with the instruments, R&R in seconds, and eaisly adjustable.
A good key switched (not ECU switched) power source is the O2 sensor heater ckt, providing your not using the O2 sensor.

Where on the Hyper is that connector? Is it the one that's blank off on the right side front under the fairing, or is back under the seat? Great bit of info.

Yes, the lambda sensor heater ckt. Its a 15A fused switched ckt that does NOT go through the ECU. I power my GPS supply and VisionX LED driving lights from it.

Ok I have the right connector, Pin 3 is the power. Are you running the ground through that connector too? I can't get a ground through the other pins. 2 and 4 show resistance, 1 is open. I can't find a readable wiring diagram.

So this is what happened when I went to adjust my GPS on my second ride with it attached. This was completely my fault, not the fault of the mount. I wish I had a power cord attached. I may have been able to save it. So dumb. The good news is that Garmin will repair it (exchange) for $89.
