HyperMotard vs Aprilia SL1000 Falco?
Have an 01 Falco now. Want to sell it and buy a Duc -- preferably a Hyper at this point.
My question is this: Will the Hyper have enough motor as compared to my Aprilia? Perhaps someone out here can offer me some insights!
Thanks!
Matt

Recently did a 600km trip with a falco and a few other bikes. While we didn't race I would argue the hyper is more of a handful and much faster in the tight & twisty stuff regarless of power figures.
The ape also broke down
I've lost count of the bikes ive ridden over the years, provided you can get past the small fuel capacity (easily remedied) and the lack or storage (easily remedied) its a great bike in just about any guise bar long haul tourer

I have an 03 Falco and still love it - the bike is bullet proof! But it will soon be up for sale after my recent HMY1100 purchase. I'd like to keep them both but I am trying to consolidate the stable (currently 6 bikes ).
Both are great bikes but different tools for different styles of riding.
Falco -
Pros: Engine Rotax 1000 (more HP, torque, bulletproof), better wind protection, comfortable (700 mile days), sounds mean, easy to wrench!
Cons: Its heavy, more effort to ride, transmission is clunky, electronics suck, DEALER SUPPORT is nil.
Hyper -
Pros: Smooth, Riding position, late everything - braking markers are deeper and later turn in, dealer support, FUN!
Cons: Wind protection, Seat (so far only 300 mile days), expensive parts and dealer maintenance, SMALL GAS TANK!
Good luck.

Thanks for the excellent Pros & Cons. That is one of my things about the Falco I am growing a bit tired off -- it is a lot to maneuver around for a quick ride. My riding now is very short jaunts, so the Hyper may be the ride. Don't care about gas tank size and too much about wind protection.
I am nervous about maintenance costs with the Ducati since I know it is expensive and since I've never had to do a damn thing to my Falco. Before that I had a SuperHawk with no maintenance either. I'm spoiled that way.
I'm afraid I'm going to miss the pulling power of the Falco you know. But the Duc is just so damn cool looking and sounding!
Thanks for your input CamDLux!
Any other opinions?
Thanks guys!!!

Have you test rode the Hyper yet? The Hyper will beat most litre bikes out of the hole easily, it just signs off quicker and doesn't have the top speed, but it should feel quite a bit more torquey down low. It will smoke most 1000s in the twisties. Its just not great for cruising on the Highway, but you said you will do short rides anyway. But the main thing is stop by the dealer and do a test ride. If you've only been riding a Falco lately (that pig-bike in the picture ) after two minutes on the Hyper you will crap your pants with joy, then after 4 minutes you will be dry humping this bike... I'm serious...

So it seems like what I will be giving up in horsepower I will be making up in grin factor. Fair to say.
No, I haven't ridden one yet, but I bought my Aprilia w/o doing the same, though they were harder to find.
I'll see if my local dealer has one to test ride.
Antigrav -- love your description by the way! Love it!
Any other thoughts guys?

Antigrav is right. I've had my Hyper for a year and a half now and I'm still crapping my pants with joy but it's more after 5 minutes than 2 minutes now.

It's difficult to make a motorcycle purchase when you can't take it for a test ride. But even if you can, what knowledge would you gain from the ride? Your first impressions can be incorrect and incomplete because you haven't have enough time make an informed decision. It's only after the "honeymoon period" where you realize that you've made the right or wrong decision. Last Saturday was my Hyper's (Isabella) two year anniversary with me and it's been a joy. Yeah, she eats tires and tank range is short but the dry clutch sound in the garage at 7 AM, the sound of the 2:1 Termi at full tilt or getting her front end light with torque is intoxicating.
