Handlebar Change

Hey all.

I'm about to do a bar change on my hyper and was wondering what the general consensus is concerning the locating pins on the throttle and switch housings.

Should I drill out my new bars so these pins have a place to locate, like the standard bar set up, or should I dremel them off the housings so holes in the bars are not required?

If I dremel them off my only I fear is that they may not tighten properly and I don't want spinning switches or especially a spinning throttle!

I've changed bars before on different bikes and never has to worry about this because they never had this set up.

Thanks in advance.

Switched my bar to a Rizoma one.
Anthony from Desmoworks told me either way was good, so I decided to drill the new bar.

On a side note, I'm really not crazy about the rizoma handlebar.

I ground mine off and the controls did want to spin. So I had to wrap black electrical tape around the bar where the control was installed. Just a couple turns and tightened it back down no problem.

I thought about drilling the bar but I wasn't 100% certain how I was going to locate each part on the bar and the exact angle of each. In fact I have moved things slightly at least 3 times since I installed the Zeta bar and guards so I am glad I went the route I did.

I would drill for the throttle, I drilled fo the throttle mount and ground down for the switchgear on my zed and always felt tape on the bars was too booty fab.

Post pics of the new setup, I'm keen to swap out my hyper bars too but I like the mirrors.

LOL, that's exactly what I did, 2 wraps of black electrical tape and all is good.

Darn Chouch they're the bars I have planned on using.
What don't you like about them?
Here's a couple of comparison pics with the Rizoma next to the stock bar.
They are not as wide (725mm) but it looks that the decrease in width comes from them having more 'pull back' which I not really fond of.
I reckon they're a little lower in rise as well.

Also, the pins on the controls are metal and the controls are plastic, this should tell you something. What it should tell you is that the pins will just PULL OUT of the plastic housing so there is no need to dremel anything. Just grap ahold of them suckers with some vicegrips and pull.

I already did mine as I can't stand having my controls up so high, it causes arm-pump and fatigue.

This is Dave's quote from my other thread I have going,(New Mirrors and Turn Signal Relocation), thanks Dave.
I knew the pins in the bar could be pulled out but it never occurred to me the ones in the switches and throttle housing could also.
This is good news mate because I can try them without on the new bars and always go back to using them with the pins if need be.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm not fond of the tape personally but if it's required, and it works, and I can conceal it, I'll do it.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

Its personal preference of course, I like things mounted nice & firm. I had 30,000km of trouble free riding with the tag bars & taped controls on my zed, but repeating the exercise I would drll over file & tape.

I actually like the stock bend a lot.
The 2 reasons I switched were color (wanted something red...) and solidity in case of a fall (the stock bar is softer than bubble gum)

When I was installing them I was a little bit concerned. I find the bend of the bar way different than stock, way less "flat" than stock.
I got used to the bar very quickly tho, a couple kilometers only. Now after more than 1.000km with the rizoma bar, I'd like to try something else, closer to stock, like a Protaper with a Carmichael bend (somehow the Henry/reed changed)

The bar reference is MA005*, and Rizoma uses the same bar for the Monster 696/1100. I never tried a new Monster, but I'm almost sure the bar is more adapted to the Monster than the HM.

here's a pic of mine :
