Hypermotard Insurance rates???
Have you guys found that the Hyper is comparable to other Ducati machines in terms of insurance? We just got a quote for $4000 for the year and of course no explanation of why it is almost half the cost of the bike. Of course we are looking elsewhere but I'm wondering if the Hyper has been marked as a bad risk?
Now remember that I'm in Canada where we typically pay four times more than Ducati enthusiasts south of the border anyway. I expected to pay a grand to twelve hundred ish.

I had liability on my bike and it was about $130 a year. This year I switched to full cover and got quoted for $1200. I went to another place and only payed $260 for a year. They told me it also covers $5k in accessories.

I have my YZ down for just Liability (in case some low-life steals it outta my truck) for $60/year and up until March, my Hyper was another $360/year for full coverage with a $250 deductable.
When I renewed in March, they took into account my accident claim from last April and now the Hyper is up to $900/year. It will go down though.
This is through GEICO.

I just learned my new 2009 Hyper is cheaper to insure (SF $350) than my S2R 800 (SF $380)! The liability portion on the Hyper is lower than the smaller displacement Monster because fewer Hyper's are on the road and thus fewer are statistically involved in accidents. As for rates, location and age are huge factors (I'm an old dude in Chicago). And the specific company is probably most important, cheap rates don't matter if you get crappy coverage/claim adjustment when you need the insurance.

I pay around $850 / year for full insurance in Montreal.
28 years old with no experience as a motorbike in Canada, as no insurance would recognize my 10 cleans years of history in France.
Insurance in Quebec is way cheaper that Ontario BTW, moslty cause the heath injuries are not covered by insurance companies but by the SAAQ who's asking 641$ for the registration fees.
