Harley goes down 5 ft in front of my gf

yesterday we had an amazing day here the temp was about 70 degrees clear sunshine with a lite breeze. I decided with my girl to go hiking to the appalachian trial. The trial runs from Maine to Georgia. We took the hyper and some food to have a picnic. When you get to the trail there is a nice curve there. I told my girl that I wanted to get a pic of me bending the bike down on the curve and show it to the boys from forum how to get it done. I left her at the curve and went down to turn back up for the pic. When I was going down there was a guy on a harley davidson coming up very fast taking the turns like it was a sportbike. I said "holly shit he is hauling ass". I turned around and went back up and when I got to the curve I didn't see my girl. Then at the end of the curve a see her coming crying at me "GIOVA GIOVA WHAT DO I DO? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO?" I see the guy laying on the pavement like jesus with his arms extended and the bike at the end of the rail. I quickly got off the bike and ran to him. His eyes were blinking very fast. "SHIT is this man dying or what" I said. we hit him on the face and ask him if he was ok. We called 911 for help. The guy was in shock or something then he got back to normal. We asked him "are you ok" he said "I don't know? The ambulance got their very fast and checked on him. He was moving every part of his body. His wife came and thanked us for helping out. My gf said that he was taking the curve then he went down and he was sliding all the way to the rail. It happen like 5 ft in front of her. The guy had a half helmet and a mesh jacket. He is lucky most harley drivers around here just ride with glasses and a t-shirt. He was ok, they just took him to the hospital to do a check up procedure.

lessons learned;
Don't drive a long wheelbase motorcycle like a sportbike
Always wear your gear
Be carefull at all times and don't drive like you're Valentino

Thanks for helping but you 'hit him on the face'? Not a great idea in case there is spinal injury. If he's not in any immediate danger where he is, just keep him still and comfort him until paramedics arise.

lol, I was picturing this poor guy splayed out across the road trying as hard as possible to not think about the pain he was in, and some other guy comes over and starts slapping the shit out of him. I know it was in good faith, but just a funny image in my head. Hope the rider ends up ok, and learned a valuable lesson. Too bad your girl didn't get any action shots of the rider laying it down. Would have been good to figure out what went wrong.

I know I asked her why she didn't take pics of him. She said that she heard the bike coming but it didn't sounded like mine so she didn't have the camera ready for him. She is trained she knows the L twin sound

Isn't it funny how you went out so your girl could get a pic of you taking a corner at high speed, so you could show off on the forum boards, and before you got a chance to do something so stupid, another idiot riding too fast for the street, crashes on the exact corner.
I don't care what he was riding, and wether that bike was suitable for high speed cornering or not, but that could have been you crashing right in front of your girl.
Imagine her getting some great pics of you crashing and possibly killing yourself.
The street is no place for showing off!
Save it for the track where there is no guard rails or cliff edges, but ample run-off on corners for when you screw up.

I really hope the real lesson you've learned here is not to be so stupid on the street.

Ditto what that man said. looks like a good fall if you miss the guard rail too.

Silly me, I thought when he said 'bend the bike down on the curve' that he meant he was going to lowside it into the guardrail, but the other guy beat him to it.

Lesson #2 buried in this thread: never stand in a corner where a bike might crash sending a 700lb hunk of metal hurtling at you.

Wouldn't it be sad if it was the girl who actually spooked the Harley guy and caused him to bin it?

I actually have a theory about this. Isn't it funny how many weekend photographers 'happen' to get shot of riders going down? I suspect many new riders aren't prepared for photographers to be standing on corners, and then start wondering what they should do instead of maintaining what they were doing before... thus possibly causing the accident.

Obviously, it's no fault of the photographer though... If a rider so easily spooked, he shouldn't be on a moto in the first place. Jmo.

It's hard sometimes to just put at the speed limit. I would love to hit the track but it's so far away. I usually ride safe but every once in awhile I try perfect my cornering faster then I should according to the law on roads I know well. I find it hard to believe Tard that you never pushed it a little on your bike or even your car. Let's be honest it's one thing to ride with a t-shirt rippin wheelies and doin 130mph or riding a 600lb Harley with out a licsense like most of my Harley buddies on public roads but hitting a turn like that and hitting it faster than the speed limit with proper riding gear at a nice lean is what I think most of us do especially if the road is a familiar one. This isn't the Vespa forum.
