Thinking about buying an 1100
Hey folks,
I test drove a Monster 1100 S this morning and switched to the Hypermotard 796 for the hell of it.
Now I don't know what to get. I was thoroughly impressed with both, but the Hypermotard is clouding my thoughts of getting the Monster I was so involved with. If I were to get the Hypermotard, it would be the the 1100.
My question...I was wondering how the Hypermotard holds up as a commuter. I commute 100 miles roundtrip daily.
Please chime in.

50 miles each way on the Hyper is nothing. Even better if its not all highway. You wont be dissapointed.

Thanks, Sticker.
It is all highway, a scenic one at that. Plus, I figured I can't go wrong with the hand gards.

I like both the Monster and the Motard. But there is something about owning the Motard that's just plain fun. Good luck on your decision, you can't go wrong we either one.

Get the Hyper - it's a blast. The freeway is kinda a pain but not that big-a-deal. You can still roll 85mph. Plus in SF you love havin' the Hyper to jam around all the streets/traffic.
Oh - I'd for sure get the 1100. There are some KILLER deals right now on CL (not mine btw).

I also wanted to note that I'm not looking for a commuter bike. I happen to like both of these bikes (Monster and 'motard) and gauging opinions.
Currently I ride a CBR1000RR (2007) and love it on the highways.
I'm adding the Ducati because I want a second bike.

Hyper is a fine commuter bike, I do 70 miles a day on mine, and have almost 11K miles on it now after 2 years. The upright position lets you see over traffic and the agility is there for quick manuvers. You just have to gas up every day thats all. Get the comfort seat, it makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I noticed the 3.3 tank on the Hyper vs. the 3.8 on the Monster, but I'm used to filling up daily or every other day anyway. Nevertheless, it still saves more gas than the car and I love being able to get away in the carpool/HOV lane.
You're right about the visibility and agility. That is what I noticed the most. Being that I rode the 796, which had sufficient power, I can only imagine what the 1100 is like.

I was commuting with it 80 miles a day about 40% back roads 60% highway.
Wind blast on the highway got annoying after awhile. Got a Fabbri windscreen and it helped take the wind blast off my chest and more toward the helmet which was a relief. I feel like when I sit on the Monster I'm more in the bike then sitting on it and I like that a little better but not enough to sway me towards the monster. The Hyper is one of the coolest bikes I ever seen and when you hit the back roads it is sweet.
