What not to do with your new hyper:
Hello all!!! I'm brand new to the forum, but not new to the world of Ducati. My first was a 2003 Monster 620 and have had some other bikes in between. Anyway, 3 weeks ago I picked up my new 796 hyper and have been loving it ever since. It has been about 3-4 years since I had my last street bike and thought this would be the perfect choice. So far I'm glad I went the hyper route. Anyway, today I pull a cardinal sin. I let my friend who just got his moto permit to ride it up the street and back. I told him, "Dont even go out of first". He was doing fine for a few minutes until he got brave and tried to take off a little to fast. Long story short, he was heading straight into a garage door so he locked up the front brake in a panic, lost the front wheel and manage to dump the bike. Parts list will be as follows,
Broken hand gaurd
broken shift linkage lever
broken off foot peg
and the bars appear to be bent a little bit.
So, other than that I'm glad to be here on this forum and I hope to contribute the best I can...

Bummer. But you should have known better. I've let friends ride my dirtbikes before, and they have never once come back without incident. Fortunately, that's what dirtbikes are for. But friends don't let friends ride their motorcycles.
On the bright side, looks like you're in the market for some Zeta guards, and some adjustable rearsets. A fine start to the mod list.

I'll bet he feels almost as bad as you do.....
I have a buddy I would love to let ride the Hyper ....A real bike rider knows his stuff and is very at home on almost every bike...
He is never sober enough to take it out always just had a couple beers and such ..
SORRY not this time....
First gear is a little hairy isn't it???
Try posting in the classifides or check them out you may find what you need

Honestly, he feels like shit and will be paying for the repairs. And yes, first gear on this bike might be a little much for a first timer.

I hear those mono-block calipers are "over kill", and it takes time to get the feel of them. Does you Hyper have them?

I was just getting to know the Hyper with the monoblocs , I was practising a panic stop before making a turn , I gave myself what I figured was a good stopping distance , Jammed the front brakes on hard with a little bit of the back brake . and I still had half of the stopping distance left....
The Feel is precise , why would you want anything less????
Overkill is ok in my world , a necessity as soon as you have it..Love the brakes...

There are very few people in this world I would even think of letting ride my hyper. I don't even like riding other people's bikes just for the sake of "what ifs"
At least it wasn't anything major. Lots of cool upgrade bits out there to replace the broken.

Well, sorry about your incident but as someone who just went through this process, I feel for your wallet. Be glad you didn't bust up the $430 plastic.
There are 1100 parts on ebay, not sure how many will fit the 796.
I could kick myself for bumping my deductible to $1k last summer.
