Motorcycle race school? maybe?
Hey,
Does anyone know of (do they exist?) a good motorcycle race school? Are there programs that can give you pointers on basic speed, cornering, etc? Or is it just worth hitting up a track day and learn-by-doing?
Thanks for input!

All our local tracks here in CA have a beginner program offered with your first track day. It usually cost the price of the track day and about $75 bucks.... but if you have the basics of riding down you can just go out and do the track day without the class. Track days are the only way to really learn.... A couple of us on this board who live in L.A and the surrounding area (myself, 08hyper,bromike,Da_Bull) do the track days at Buttonwillow, Streets of Willow and Fontana and some guys are doing Fontana this coming week. Anyone is always welcome to go with us and it's really is best to go with some people on your first day so they can show you the basic protocol and lessen the nerves. Everybody that I've ever rode with from this board is very cool and easy going and would welcome another rider to the group.

You can always take this school since you are already in CA.

Or as was posted above. Take a track day and go out in the Novice Class. It does help if you are there with people who have done it before. You will be surprised at the end of the day with what you experience. If you decide to do a regular track day you will need full leathers, boots and gloves along with a approved helmet.

I've been to a couple of California Superbike schools. They are great. They have a two day racing school and if it's anything like the regular school it will be well worth the cost.

Everybody on THIS board is very cool....but those dudes over on the Superbike forum can be a pretty bitchy lot at times. Not nearly as neighborly as our Hyper community here.
Have been seriously considering doing the one-day California Superbike School at Philip Island this year. They're using prepped GSX-R 600s, not the Bimmers unfortunately...

Track days are a blast
I have done 3 days with these guys http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/ and I have really enjoyed my time.
I am sure there are equivalents on the West Coast.
I have run in the novice class and found the class room time and the time with the instructors to be very beneficial. After 30+ years of riding cruisers and dirt bikes, getting schooled on sport bike riding was quite eye opening.
The other benefit of doing track days is that it seems to kill most of the desire to be aggressive on the roads and now that I have all the gear, I find myself using it for my weekend rides.
