Putnam Park
I am thinking of doing the first available track day this year at Putnam Park. Has anyone had their Hyper out there? And has anyone rode with this organizer http://www.cycleoptions.com/? April 24-25

I have not done 1 b4 but i too am interested. I just talked with the guys at Ducati of indy, they have 1 as well at putnam coming up and they have many motards. They also recomend i bring my ninja because they welcome a veriety of bikes. They also offer 1 on 1 track riding and advice, with techs on hand offering free tweaking.
My question and issue is leathers... Do i have to buy a set, not knowing if im even going to like it? R they mandatory? Maybe find some used 1's..

DM-
I am certain most everyone will agree that leathers are highly recommended. However, I have the same thoughts you do and I thought I would go try one day at the cycle options track event, take it easy, not push very hard and get a feel for the whole thing. They are not required per the website http://www.cycleoptions.com/safety.html. If I like it then go ahead make the investment but I am open to anyones advice if this is a really bad idea.
Let me know if you're going in April. I do like the fact that it is only $135 for the day.

Both you guys should go... and make sure you go because you will crap yourself with how fun it is. You will be nervous the first time out.. then it goes away once you start riding and then get the big stoke and your addicted... One day on the track and you will improve your street riding substantially. And yes just get a used suit, probably a 2 piece to start... you should be riding around in leather always anyway... The Hyper rocks on the tracks but you won't have the top speed of the sport bikes, but corners will rock.

Putnam
I have ridden Putnam twice on the Hyper.
I rode with STT (sportbiketracktime) as my first ever track day and I rode one of the Ducati Indy/Commonwealth days last year. Both times, I was in the novice group. One of the Ducati Indy guys was on a Hyper riding in the A or I groups, I can't remember which and hopefully he will post about riding the Hyper at Putnam in one of the advanced groups.
I had a great time at Putnam on the Hyper and if there was 1 thing to fault, its the long front straight. It is fun to stretch the Hyper's legs a bit but the closing speeds on the sport bikes were a bit overwhelming. Though, 100% of that issue is a personal problem and not a Hyper issue.
I just got back from Barber and the Hyper was really fun on that great track. I hope to get back and do the Ducati Indy day at Putnam and it would be nice to have more Hypers at the track.
Antigrav its completely right. Riding on the track is a laugh a minute affair and it almost completely removed any desire to ride on the roads. If you do decide to go, take about an hour and remove the stock handguards, rear turn signals and plate. They are pretty easy to remove and expensive to replace. STT will rent leathers for $75 if you decide to ride with them and I highly recommend a set.
My avatar is from my first Putnam event. Since then, I have removed the street legal bits,

We have about 12 individuals who do track days all year long. Your more than welcome to post up under track days tread at www.idesmo.org and you probably will get an answer.

I've had a Hyper S at Putnam... and have ridden with Cycle Options. I like Cycle Options and have ridden with them 4-5 times now.
I've ridden 450/560 motards at Putnam in I and A without trouble. Your corner speed, line selection, etc... have much more to do with your lap time than the speed down the straight.
You should come to the Indy Ducati/Commonwealth track days - we have a fantastic time. I think in the last 2 years we've had only 2-3 red flags (which is thrown when there is a crash). We run a really safe and fun track day and we keep the group sizes down smaller than any other orginiser that I'm aware of. Tons of open track time so you can work on your skills rather than spending your time trying to find openings to pass the whole time because the track is crowded!
