The engine sidecovers are gold on the S model,versus grey on the standard.Are they made of a different material?

nope ... same material (aluminum).

+1. Don't be fooled by the color as the magnesium ones look the same.

Thought so.I never did look at any of the promo brochures or reviews.One test ride told me to sell my SS and buy the HM.
