bad clutch blues

I just bought a brand new leftover 09 hyper, drove from Illinois to Colorado to get this demo with 6 miles on it for about 3 grand under retail. Anyway i got it home and do to snow around here ive only been able to ride it twice. So yesterday on my way home 3 blocks from my house, it decides its not gonna shift anymore. The clutch pull feels funny, like bout half the normal pull. So i try to limp it home leaving stop signs in 4th gear . At one it stalls, now I can shift it. I put in 2nd and head home, but when i let out clutch it makes a screeching sound. I get it home and look down, the clutch cover is smoking hot. Hot enough that the paint is discolored and there is a crack in the cover. I can see that somthing inside has come loose and is marking the cover from the inside, maybe a spring, maybe the whole basket. I dnt know because its waranty work and im takin it in to the shop, and not messin with it with only 80 mi on odometer.
Anyway my question is, Is this what i got to look forward to now that im a first time ducati owner? Are these good bikes? lemons? Ive bought a dozen brand new kawasakis and never had a lick of trouble. Just lookin for some feedback.

No issues here

Sorry, I have no idea on what might be causing your issues but the thought of a new purchase going wrong is not pleasant.

I have had no issues with mine. Hopefully you can get it over to a dealer and get it serviced. Indy the closest one to you?

sounds like just a fluke, as Ducati clutches are OK, at 80mi should be a warrantee issue. Aloha Alex

Sounds pretty unusual, let the stealership deal with it completely.

I have heard of a spring stalk breaking off from being overtightened from the factory but this is rear as well.

Unlikely the whole basket has come loose but without looking in we can only guess.

Let us know the outcome.
