Becoming one with the Hyper
Spent some quality time crawling around the garage working on the Hyper for the first time. To do list knocked off included - - R & R wheels with Michelin Pilot Power 2s installed
- Lubed the chain
- Replaced dented exhaust header from front cylinder to collector
- Installed 5 spoke clutch cover (thanks John!)
- Installed Shift Tech CF rear fender
- Installed Weiser LED rear turn signal kit
Between the service manual and information I was able to find on this site (and a couple of PMs ) doing all of this was pretty much a breeze. And working on a naked bike was nice. Most of my rides over the past several years have been fully faired so being able to just start work without first having to strip yards of plastic was nice. Of course, as soon as I was ready to roll out for a test ride the skies opened up and dumpy like crazy over here for about 30 minutes. New tires and freshly soaked pavement are not a good combo. I'll get it out for a short ride tomorrow to see if I did it right.

I noticed the "Ding" on the pipe didn't want to say anything...
Adjust the sloppy throttle cable if sloppy ???
Change the factory headlight bulb for a Sylvania Silver Star , at least if not a HID...
Go have some fun take your time

Nice to meet you Monday.I would have to agree with you about this bike being nice to work on.My friend rides an 848 and it's a chore just to do a little pokin' around.Plus I think it's nice to be able to see the motor. If I had a "real sportbike",I would feel compelled to remove the fairings every coulpe of rides to look things over.Maybe it's just me.

Got it out for a test ride today, and nothing fell off. I guess I did it right!
Regarding the headlight bulb, it does seem a little weak. I've done HID upgrades on a number of my past BMWs (the GT came with it from the factory) but not sure I want to dive into that on the Hyper. Is the SIlver Star mentioned above a good replacement, and if so what wattage is recommended?

don't forget to flush the brake fluid in all three liines (front/rear brakes and clutch) ... will make a HUGE difference in the feel of brakes, and the clutch.

Good point, John. I noticed the rear brake reservoir was looking a little dark. I'll get that on the list.

The only complaint I have about working on the Hypermotard is that the button head bolts are easily stripped. The wrench size is small relative to the bolt diameter and the hex socket is shallow. I usually use a handheld impact driver tapped lightly with a hammer to get them loose. Ball-tip allen head wrenches are useless on the button heads. Use only full socket head wrenches without rounded angles.
