One-piece leathers recommendation..advice from the bigger than average guys
hey dudes,
any recommendations from guys of similar height/weight (96kg/212lb and 188cm/6'2') on which one-piece leathers you've had good luck with in terms of fit/performance and overall value?
So far the best overall fit I've found is the Alpinestars SP1 in a size 54 and they are reasonably priced, too.
I also tried the Race Replica in a 54 and I liked certain things about it, but they seemed to be cut for more jockey-like proportions and the fit around the calf was very tight, ie almost impossible to zip down completely. The sales guy assured me they were designed to eventually break in, but that seemed like a lot of stretching would be required. They're also pretty damn pricey, too.
going to be trying Dainese and some other brands later this weekend as well.
any advice is welcome....thanks a lot

Hi,
I'm 6'4 (I know Elephant on a tricycle). Got my one oiece leathers 12 years ago. THey still fit :-) and are in good condition. They are Furygan and I bought them from a regular shop but they did a made to measure service on an off the peg suit. Some manufacturers do do this. So might be worth asking a few shops on your side of the pond.

Get a custom suit. For anyone with an odd build, a custom suit is the best investment you'll ever make. Not just for safety reasons, but comfort on the bike. Spend the money and get a really well made custom suit. You'll use it for years and years.

am same overall specs as you ... have had very good experience with dainese one piece suits in size 54.
they run a little tight in the ceramic balls area (note to alex ) when standing upright or walking around ... but the fit is spot on when riding ... and after all, a race suit is supposed to fit when riding/racing, not when standing/walking
imho, the quality of the dainese suits are excellent ... leather quality, stitching quality, dye quality ... and the ce armor is better than any other i have found. knee pucks are positioned really well.
plus, i believe dainese is the only manufacturer to offer over the boot design, look at what vale, max and others are wearing ... so if you like that "boot inside the pant" look, this is a great option.
this is my next dainese suit ...

I picked up an AGV suit that is also a bit short in the crotch to shoulder length but fine on the bike. Is this normal with 1 piece suits?

Vanson. Fits tight at first but breaks in NIIIIICE. Crashes well, too.
Also, you might look into Kushitani. Not sure about selection but they are gorgeous pieces of kit.
Helimot is also some fine stuff.

I'm on the opposite/odd size spectrum, I ended up going the custom suit route. Great fit and comfort like archimedio said. A plus on safety too, a good fitting suit doesn't move all over causing secondary burn from the lining moving against your skin. I’ve used in the USA, Syed and Z-Custom with the nod to Z-Custom, great suits.
