Front Wheel Mis-alignment
I removed the wheels to replace the tires and upon re-assembly I ran into a problem. The tire was put on the proper direction on the front wheel. When I installed the wheel the discs are not lined up with the caliper. The discs sit about 1/2 inch to the right of centerline. If I reverse the wheel direction, eveything lines up. Apparently, the wheel was first assembled at the factory the wrong direction. The bearings were not pressed in properly to obtain the proper spacing of the discs. The original tire must have been put on the reverse direction, although I never checked this. Any one seen this on their Hyper? I have an 08 "S". The fix is to remount the tire but reverse the direction and assemble the wheel going the opposite direction. It must have been this way from the start, but I have never experienced this before.

Are you sure the spacers aren't just reversed?

There is only one spacer on my bike on the left side. If I put the wheel in the wrong direction, the spacer sits partially inside the boot, which is the way it was when I disassembled the wheel for the first time, and everything lines up. Could someone look at their hyper and see if your spacer is on the left side and does it sit partially inside the boot around the bearing? Also check to see if your wheel rotation is in the proper direction.
thanks
Mike

Mines as you describe above. Spacer on the left and wheel rotation direction correct.

Seated on the bike, the left spacer is long and goes past the dust seal to seat on the bearing. On the right, there is a short spacer that sits inside the dust seal and barley sticks out.The arrows on the wheel stickers point in the direction of rotation and the valve stem points to the right side.Hope this helps.

Here is what happened. I took the wheel to a Yamaha dealer with the small spacer in place. It is captured in the boot. I left the larger spacer at home. After installing the tire the mechanic installed the spacer on the wrong side. I didnt realize it even had a spacer on the right side, I thought what I was seeing was the bearing so I didnt think of pulling it out and switching sides. I simply switched the spacers and all is well. So thanks to all for your input, especially the diagram showing the two spacers.
