Ducati Performance Steering Damper Setting

Hey guys,

After experiencing some fairly significant headshake when I was trying to pull top speed on the bike last weekend, I decided I needed to pay a little more attention to the damper setting this week. Not having messed with it since I got the bike, of course it was on its softest setting.

I counted 25 or 26 clicks full stiff to full soft. I know that too stiff of a damper setting on some bikes will cause them to shake like hell in certain situations. Not being an expert in these matters, would be curious to hear from you guys on what you think a good place to start would be in terms of a setting.

Cheers,
Cog

Cog, just curious are you running the stock suspension on your "S" with a steering dampener?

Yes, that's right. Unfortunately, I'm still on the stock Mar"shocking" fork.

I run 6-8 clicks from full soft. More than that feels weird in low speed turns to me.

I was running 8 clicks out from soft but after I installed the BST wheels I took it up to 10. The wheels made the bike seem a bit twitchy during high speed turn-ins and prior any higher setting the bike seemed off. Overall the new wheels just made the bike turn much faster. Just a tiny pressure on the bars and the bike flops over. Not really sure what any stiffer settings are used for as too much stiffer and the bike handles like poo.

I, and I'm sure others who view this site, would appreciate it if you took your potty mouth elsewhere.

Thanks for the advice, guys....I just set it about midway at about 12 before I took off on my evening ride last night, and yes, I didn't like the feeling at all. Just felt weird.

I'm going to back it down to 6 or 7 and work up or down from there.

damper

Mate, No matter what you do with the crappy DP damper - your still going to find your front shakes like an 86 year old grandma's legs after a run to the toilet.
Adjust the reload on the front shocks - dont pull on the handle as you go above 90 / 100 sit closer to the front and some of the shake may be reduced.

try the GPR / Ohlins dampers.
DP make the worst dampers.
