rear shock spring
has anyone tried swapping out the rear shock spring on a standard hyper themselves yet? The reason I ask is I am getting prepared to swap springs up front and put 5 wt fluid in. I was hoping to swap out springs too in the rear.

I pulled the rear shock assembly out with spring attached. That part is a simple job but I did take it to my local moto suspension guy to pop the spring out. Too much tension to deal with safely for me.
I didn't swap springs but my guy had hundreds of moto springs sitting around the shop waiting for the chance to get some action

I wish I had someone close that I trusted to swap the spring out for me. I may have to send it to traxxion to have them rebuild it.

IF you're going to ship parts out you have dozens of options and twice as many opinions.
http://www.le-suspension.com/ this is my go-to guy, he gets good reviews and has stuff shipped to him daily from all over. some love him and some hate him
http://www.evolutionsuspension.com/ this is another local shop that gets tons of praise on our local forums

Is there not enought thread on the shock body to back the collars off and eliminate the tension. I haven't messed with this shock, but that is all that was required on other shocks I have resprung. Get yourself a good spanner wrench and clamp it into a vise and your good to go.
Out!

I tried that first without any luck. I was short almost an inch of solid tension

You need a spring compressor, I made one that works with the bottle jack from my Toyota hilux.
Wii try and find a pic

..and that is my garage floor too
freezer16801, this machine works a bloody treat and very controllable with no danger or stress.
We have changed the 848 and Hyper spring with this, simple and easy, you don't have to get any more techy than this other than maybe a cup holder

Yes there is enough thread on the shock body (2008 s ) to back the locking collars off and have no tension on the spring. I replaced my slipping plastic collar with one I made on a lathe. Use good C spanners and keep the collars close as you undo it or the plastic one might slip.

Yeah, no S for me. I bet you can find a shop that has a spring compressor to get it on and off for a few bucks. You might have to check with some car/truck shops that specialize in suspension.
