Sidestand bolt broke... Any Ideas ???
The bolt broke and whats left is inside the eng. block and flush with the surface. I knew this will happen, when I saw this mount first time, I knew it was a weak design. I understand the "weight saving state of mind" on this bike, but I wish the stand was mounted to the frame and not the engine block. Well, I will pull the broken bolt out and install a new one the dealer gave me, but I will like to mod this mount so it does not happen again. Any ideas ?
By the way, bike has 16k miles.

Just clean everything up and loctite the new bolt in, and check it often. Mine got loose too. I think as long as its tight its fine. My brother's Buell is a similar design and his broke after becoming loose. Its all motor down there, no frame to mount to.

If you broke off the side stand bolt on the Hyper, just be glad you don't own a KTM. The bolt breaks on a KTM if you stare at it too long.
John, it probably broke while he was trying to kick start the Hyper...

I could not pull the bolt out, so I hammered it inside that aluminum box with a 5 lb. hammer and a flat punch. Then I glued the sidestand base to the aluminum with SuperGlue. I will wait for it to dry overnight and test it tomorrow. I know I know, I will not be able to remove the sidestand now that its glued, but who cares. I hope the piece of broken bolt is shot out of the muffler someday. I hope it does not hit a car windshield when it comes out.
I still believe I could have designed a better mount for the sidestand....
Sorry Billy, I forgot to tell you it broke while I was standing on the bike to reach a banana from a banana plant. Now I know this stunt is not good for reaching bananas, next time I`ll try reacing oranges instead...

This is just living proof that fruit is bad for your health and burgers are better.
I think you use of SuperGlue is heavy handed, RTV silicone sealant would have been better cos it will take out vibration and it is more flexible so you stand can move around a bit without breaking off.

Monstaman, thats a good idea, but besides telling me too late, RTV is heavier than Super Glue, rendering the Hyper out of dinamic balance and kinetically unstable at ultra high speeds. Also, RTV is galvanically-corrosive to the disimilar metals of aluminum ( alloy ) and the steel in the stand-base. On top of that, RTV is two dollars more expensive than Super-Glue. For Ala`s sake, am I ever going to get any respect around here ??? !!!

Come on guys, use cork. Just grab a piece of cork (I like the cork form Pinot Noir, color matching is pretty good for my frame, and it's cheap), cut it to size and shove it through the sidestand into the case. It conforms to any damaged threads and it's light-weight.

Why not just weld it? Welding is way stronger than glue and looks racey if you lay down a good bead.
You can drill holes in the sidestand to couterbalance the added weight of the weld. Plus, holes look really cool and racey.
