Fuel Stabilizer

I have a standard 08 Hypermotard and I will be going the the FAA ATC Academy in OKC for about four months. I have a battery tender hooked up and I am debating adding a fuel stabilizer. Does anyone have experience and thoughts, pros and cons to using the additive? I haven't heard any negatives and the guy at the shop I bought it from said when I want to ride again I don't have to do anything special. Would anyone do anything else to keep her in tip top shape while I am away?

Thanks for any responses!

i restored a rusty old gas tank once by the use of Electrolysis and ran after the tank was coated with Por15.

Im thinking 4 months though you really might not need to do it. Wouldnt hurt though.

Sta-Bil (or your choice of stabilizer) won't hurt a thing and can only help.

you should use sta-bil. I leave in where we put the bikes away for months at a time. sta-bil keeps the gas volatile. I have sta-bil in my hyper right now

Brad, I'm glad you posted this.My friend has a 74' Duc 750 Sport that has'nt run in many years. The tank has some pretty serious rust inside. We were about to hook it up to our lathe and tumble it, but may give this a go after removing the heavy rust.Already bought the "Kreem" kit, but may reconsider that too.

What ever you do get rid of the kreem, do not use it. That stuff is CRAP!. I cant tell you how many kreem jobs ive seen go bad. Not only from poor prep but the product does not do what its designed to. Get the por15 gas tank repair kit and use the electrolysis as i describe on that blog posting link.

If you use a fuel stabilizer be sure to buy the newer versions that have been re-formulated for ethanol gas.
Ethanol is the pits and is a water magnet hence the need to use the newer products. The new Sta-bil works very well.
