The Last Air-box Mod thread!
Okay... at least it's not about what kind of motor oil to use! I am going to do the air-box mod on my Hyper. I have scoured the forum trying to find a good detailed step-by-step with pictures. There was one from a while ago but it didn't look like it was for a hyper - the air-box had some kind of metal plate on the bottom of it. Does anybody have a link or reference to something like this? Can anybody tell me if I can do the mod without cutting a hole in the bottom of the box? I thought it was just a 2 1/4" hole saw on the top and a better air filter. Thanks in advance for the help.

I just did mine last weekend. It was actually really easy. The cable/hose guide clamp bolts under the left side of the tank were a pain to reach, but other than that pretty straight forward. I looked over the tank removal section of the manual and went to it.
You don't have to take the tank all the way off. If you don't have someone to hold the tank up for you while you unscrew the lid, you can prop it up with the handlebars betwixt the left front mount point.
You probably don't really need to cut out the bottom as the hole you're about to make will let a TON more air in than that quarter sized excuse for an intake.
I used my dremmel to whittle away the lid instead of a hole saw - partly because I don't have any hole saws, but mostly because I'm convinced there isn't anything the dremmel CAN'T do. Haven't tried blending soup with it yet...
...Oh, and don't be too surprised to you find a couple stripped bolt heads along the way.

Yep - I've got a Dremel & a Snap-on die-grinder that I think I could build an A-bomb with. They're amazing tools (instruments). Thanks for the feed-back and encouragement. I think I'm going to go with the BMC air filter - I found one on eBay for $36 - delivered. I can't wait to feel the improvement. I figure since it is what all my pals and I have done to the DRZ's in the family (i.e. 3x3 mod) it will be every bit as cool as what I've read about. As far as the "pods" (disgo duc), a friend of mine had those on her Hyper when she ran the large fuel tank - she didn't like the "sound". So, here goes!
