The O-Ring Mystery?
Anyone else had this happen? A couple months ago I came walking out to the garage and there was an broken o-ring under my bike, close to the front end. I took the o-ring to the dealer and they couldn't tell me where it came from. Fork? Engine? No one knows. Since I have a few bikes they suggested it came off another? So, the other day I go out to the garage and there's another. Exactly like the first and, broken too. No leaks, no loss of perfomance or cornering. Just another damned o-ring mystery?

It's one of the o-rings that hold the tool kit under the left front fairing inner
panel. One of mine was already broken on arriving home from the dealer when
I first bought the bike. Is your vinyl-bagged tool kit still on the bike? They've
been known to work their way out...

I like the part about them suggesting it came off another bike. Nice try!
Interesting that some dealers, with constant exposure to throngs of Ducatis,
seem to know so little about them. But then, the turnover rate among folks
out on the sales floor could be fairly high...
It's when the guys who are actually _working_ on the bikes give you that blank
stare that I would begin to worry.

Already worried. Going to check the toolkit when I get home. Thanks!

Don't worry too much, the total value of the tools in the kit is maybe $4-to-$6.
Story for ya-- about a year ago I was standing in front of the local dealer examining
the demo Hypermotard and yakking with the (cool) sales guy. Noticed something
a little odd on the left side and deftly reached in and pulled out the tool kit bag from
where it was wedged in between the side frame and the wiring harness, and
waved it around in front of my face. "Lookie what I found!"
Storage was definitely not on the must-have list when they designed this bike.

I agree tool bag, but your stock chain will be throwing o-rings like Obama throwing around cash.
Out!
