ADVANTAGE the 796 will have over 1100?? Quick Dealer Q...
Hello:
I checked out the 1100 at the dealership...I want a hypermotard
I see the 796 is coming out shortly. Being that it's a bit newer, does it have any technical/or other advantages over the 1100? I'm trying to find someone reason to help me decide...
Dealer Question:
Any recommended dealers that will have a fair out the door price for a 796? I nearby dealer wanted to tack on $950 prep and $950 crate fee for a GSXR. I couldn't believe they felt comfortable tacking on an additional $2k! Same dealer sells ducatis, so I'm sure it would be no different...
Advantage of a used 1100 is that my sales tax would be $25 (awesome). I'm hoping to snag a hypermotard 1100 for $6500-7000. Do you know of any?
THANKS

The 1100 is simply a more powerful bike.

Buyer Beware !!!
Hey you sound like you are ripe for the PICKING!!
Your in Chicago right? Cold out there ..
Take your time and weigh all the pros and cons what matters to you...
Think ahead , will you get used to the less power and end up wanting more , or will the less power satisfy you ??? Think long and hard about that..
Don't be too fast to buy , sounds like you got some time to get the best deal from the BEST dealer,,,
Get to know the shop and see what kind of mechanics they have there and how much do they stock in parts
I always ask how much "out the door price "
You will need a good dealer , for after the sale issues , to help you answer all your questions after the sale ..
Shop around and get educated before you leap ,,Time is on your side ,
Add ons later is what can cost a bundle ,,see if there is any used 1100's at some dealers
Get friendly with the sales people and tell them that you are looking , and keep you in mind for any upcoming deals or trade ins coming up ..
This forum is a very good place to start ..do some searches and see whats out there from here ,,,, Good choice in models ...

my 2 cents....
one advantage the 796 has over the 1100....again my opinion... is the wet slipper type clutch... why a premium manufacturer wouldn't spec a slipper clutch on a big v-twin, is greed......... every sportbike sold should come standard with a slipper clutch...that is more of a safety item than abs brakes imo.... not trying to start a pissing contest just stating my opinions...

I'd rather pay the $600 and have an 1100. Also the stock slippers Ducati has been putting in aren't that great. They don't perform as well as an after market slipper. I also had one come stock in a 2008 R6 I had for a few months. Rear wheel locked up all the time. The stock ones are sheeeeaaat.

there are only 2 possible advantages to the 796:
1. Price, if you're not willing to buy a used 1100.
2. Seat height, if you're short.

Get the big boy, but get ready to throw some money for those very enticing aftermarket parts!

$6,500 - $7,000 for a used 1100 (standard)! If you can find one in that price range, that would be killer. I live in Cali and I've never seen one that cheap (even if they had hella miles). At least I hope they have not dropped that much in in the last 1-2 years! You might be able to pick up a salvage title 1100 for that price.
Get the 1100 though...you will be HAPPY you have the power; definitely worth the $$$!

Or buy a used 796 then replace all the forks, wheels, bars, controls, seats, ect. and come out with a little screamer with the best parts.
