I've read that the stock air filter dynos higher than aftermarket, all things being equal.

I don't remember where I read it. Consider it heresay. Smarter people will chime in.

I put in a BMC, not necessarily to get more flow but to save money in the long run. I would rather clean a filter than buy multiple paper filters. Take the aftermarketers' HP gain claims with a grain of salt.

I have a DNA filter in mine and it is a nice filter. The only problem I have with them is that the wire mesh on the outside of the filter tends to get bent/mashed in a couple areas when inserting the filter into the airbox. This is primarily due to a weird airbox setup, but over the long run could be a problem.

I have about 5K on my bike and have checked the filter a couple times. Last time I checked it, it wasn't noticeably dirty. I guess I will check it again at 5K and run it until 7500 if it isn't bad.

Personally, I would like to see a dry flow sythentic filter for these. I run AEMs in my Duramax and wife's Tahoe and just put one in my Teryx. On the Duramx and Teryx they seem to collect a lot of dust when I am offroad. They are a very good filter and clean up with soap and warm water. Drop it back in and you are good to go. You could probably make a universal AEM fit with a set of aftermarket stacks.

Out!

My bike pulled crap through a properly oiled and installed K&N in the stock airbox. The inside of the airbox was coated with dust, pissed me off. K&Ns have been known to do this, and the small filter area makes it worse. I went with the Ducshop velocity stack kit, this being a big reason, but the added power doesn't hurt either. It comes with large K&N pod filters, but I also made up my own custom foam prefilters. Works and sounds great, and I should be able to just prop up the front of the tank to pull the foams off for cleaning when needed.

For the stock airbox, I think I'd open it up more and go back to the paper filter, and see how that works. Too bad Amsoil doesn't make a filter for the HM, had one in my VRod and they both flow and filter great.

Thumbs up BMC good filter!

BMC here, cleanable & highflow, should be about the same as the DNA or K&N, it works excellent, with no sigh of any debi or dust in the airbox. Aloha Alex
