Best cheap handling-related mod for the Hyper
I've been having issues with touching down pegs in the turns on the hyper... it was one reason I couldn't ride it with my heart in peace recently when chasing down a friend on an 1198 on B.R. Parkway. Every now and then, when I got lazy and just pushed the bike below me, it would touch down and scare me shitless.
Not wanting to spend a lot of $ on new rearsets (this hyper is consuming enough cash) I purchased some pegs that attach to the stock rearsets from shift-tech. They mounted in literally 2 minutes, and not only do they give me much needed ground clearance, but I've experienced a great unexpected side-effect:
Namely, I was always "hanging on" the hyper on acceleration or at high speed, which obviously was not good for handling. Now, with these pegs I can push forward with my fight, and I'm "closer" to a superbike or in-the-bike type of stance... helps massively. Don't have blisters on my hands anymore, much more comfortable... it's ALL better.
Probably the most noticeable $100+ I've spent yet... should have been my first mod.

Cool..does it just move the pegs or the levers too? I was touching my levers down first with the stock peg sliders removed.

Interesting. You know, "hanging on" too tightly is also one of the major
contributors to headshake, which is why some guys experience it on a
certain bike and other don't. An important component of the chassis resonance
is the rider himself!
Good idea on the Shift-Tech pegs... I'm running the Ducati Designs adjustable
replacement race pegs on my HM and it really helped out with cornering
clearance without paying the $500+ for rearsets (do like those Woodcrafts, tho!).
Also raised the shifter and brake levers up one spline and shortened
the end of my brake lever by 50%. This, combined with the 30mm raised
D.D. pegs, provides decent ground clearance (though not Superbike clearance).

the onl thing that worries me with those pegs is if they don't snap in a spill before they fold up and punch through the engine casing!

I can't imagine how that would happen. When they fold, they just hit the stock peg bracket.

Good info, thanks! Is nice you can retain the passenger pegs. I personaly went with the Woodcrafts though

I looked at this set-up first, but like you, I was hitting both levers & pipe at the track, and since the Shift-Tec & Ducati Designs, only moves the pegs, and not the levers, I went with the DP rear sets with levers, main reason I went with the DP's are that you can retain the passenger pegs, and the pegs fold like the stock ones. Aloha Alex

sorry, was gone, busy taking my defensive driving course in Sylva, NC yesterday. Ended up riding most of the day... quite cold but spectacular roads (107 out of sylva, 281, parts of the B.R. parkway... heaven on a hyper).
So, I will have to raise the levers, although I don't know how you would shorten the brake lever?. This was a cost-based consideration, so I know true rearsets would have been better Mark. The levers fold up as previously stated... took about 2 minutes to swap out with regular pegs.
only next step is to powdercoat some remaining parts on that bike black, and get the forks setup (another thread floating around here) and this baby will be purr-fect for me.
