Just my thoughts on HM Standard V S
Had an S.Sold it and had a couple of KTM's.Now back on a standard.
I am an average rider ( maybe not that good!).
Other than the wheels( which I must admit I cant tell the diff-except for the 'forged ' sticker), and the CF bling , I cant tell any difference between the two.
Brakes: actually prefer the standards.
Rear shock: feels the same as the Ohlins- in fact , it's less harsh.
Forks: dont look as good, but seem to work none the less.
My standard came with the termi 2-1- i reckon this is the best option for this bike ( my S had Leo Vince cat elim, twin LV underseat pipes etc).
With a bit of chinese CF I'm almost back to where I was before!
So,I think, for an average rider with a strict budget, buy the standard and you'll have money left for the exhaust. If money's no option, go the S !

your observations are spot on, and exactly what pierre terblanche and two other friends that work in testing for ducati advised me two years back, when i was considering the hypertard.
the money i saved on delta in cost between s and base went into the termi 2-1 system, with money left over for the DP race seat and a few other bits and pieces.
have ridden a few s models and prefer the standard monoblock calipers on my base model ... easier for me to modulate.
your findings on the suspension is spot on as well ... the s model's ohlins shock is the mass produced/oem production ohlins ... not the higher quality race series. the base model's shock is on par with the ohlins, and the forks only differences are the anodizing on the legs, the DLC on the tubes, and the bling-bling tops ... the internals are same-same.
anyway, glad you got back into hypertard ownership.

The S was worth it for me for the bling and the brakes. I honestly don't care about the suspension since it still needs to be modified to work right for my size so what it starts off as doesn't matter.

With respect, I think that the ohlins shock is probably better than the sachs shock even if it is mass produced. THe S brakes are also awesome and have saved me at least once on the road. Agree on the front forks which are not great from standrad

Also, the wheels are probably worth their weight (loss)

I tested both at the Ducati demo days and the only thing much better about the S was that they had fitted it with the 2-1 Termi. I ended up buying a used S only because they are easier to find and the price difference with the used standard models on sale at the time was mininal (less than $1K, I think like $700) so it was worth it to me for the 'bling' and wheels. Had I found a standard with the 2/1 Termi, I would have bought it without hesitation though.
As far as buying one new, sorry to say but I always thought the S was overpriced. $9.5K for a 6 month old S with 1200 miles and some CF and accessories was more like it for me. I know, I'm cheap

on the shocks ... subjective call as to if one is "better" ... all i have found is that there have been more issues with quality control on the ohlins than on the sachs ... the ohlins spring adjustment ring (the plastic one) has provided more issues with breaking ... and finally, even with all the "extra" adjustment settings that the ohlins offers, one can get the sachs adjusted to provide equal performance. again, these ohlins are not the hand built race series components we all see on every wsb and motogp bike ... these are mass produced units. that said ... if one is pleased with their bike, then all is good. bottom line: the hyper is a great bike, in either model offering.

I'm with you.
I found my "S" for $9,200 with 43 miles on it. It was stock and at first I was a little taken back, hoping that someone else had eaten some of the accessory cost on the bike that I finally ended up buying, but now I'm thrilled as I'm having tons o'fun accessorizing it myself. I wouldn't trade this for the world.
