Red Shift Light on Hyper Display Panel
So my red shift light on the display panel occasionally flashes while parked with
the key off. Is this trying to tell me something? It's done this since the
first day I bought the bike and I didn't see anything about it in the manual.
I've always ignored it since it made it look like the bike had an alarm .
Now I'm wondering if anyone else has this "feature".
Also, while on the subject of the (mostly useless) shift light, I noticed whenever
I was in a pack of loud bikes at the track this weekend, I had a tendency to
hit the rev limiter, which I almost never do on the street. Not hearing your
own bike seems to be an issue! What do you track guys do about that?

That's the immobilizer light: it will flash for 24 hours after you have parked the bike to show that the bike cannot be started without the right key.
Concerning the rev limiter, it is set to 8500rpms: on road use it is difficult to reach these rpms.

I figured it was something like that but I now have the 708B ECU (immobilizer disabled) and it still flashes. Haven't tried to start the bike with a regular key.
Maybe for you.

Unless you're a hopelessly incurable hooligan, like many of us on this forum...

Well, actually I drive on the hills around the Mugello circuit so it is not easy to find a straight section longer than 1 mile! That's why I don't reach easily the 8500rpms.
I love the curves instead of high speed: I had to change the stock foot pegs with the Bursi ones (the higher available) in order to save my boots and brake/shift levers!
Concerning the red light, it should flash even if the immobilizer is switched off (at least this is what was going on with my Monster S4).

Sounds like a great area to ride, Motocrimik! I'm in it for the turns, too.
Hey, since you're so close to the source at Ducati, we're expecting you to be
our "factory spy" for the forum, OK?

Depends what revs you use.
My SS has the same basic motor, and it's far too easy to hit the rev limiter with the OEM ECU, probably because my ST2 has the rev limiter at 9500, and my 999R 10500. With the FIM ECU, the rev limit of my SS is 9500, so no more problem.
My local roads are all mostly 1-2 gear stuff, even with 15/43 gearing on the SS and 999R, and 14/43 on the ST2!

Well, until last year I was a supplier to Ducati for some electrical connectors (I was working for Molex Inc in the italian subsidiary).
It was great to go around the factory and the production lines and be part of the business!
Now I'm working for another company and my office is just 1 mile away from Ducati (my house is 5 miles away!).

What happens when you hit the rev limiter? Does it retard the spark? How does it stop over rev on the hyper? Thx.

It cuts the spark, somewhat suddenly with only two cylinders to work with.
Cough... cough.
