'09 hyper s - kayaba worth the premium over '08
hello
I was checking out an '09 hyper s in black that is on sale for 12600, so 2 grand discount.
thing is with the swap back to marzochi for 2010 should i go with an '08 instead as that one has the marzochi - its a year older and i can git for cheaper.
i am able to get the '08 s for 10900 new.
thoughts?

I paid extra for the 09 to avoid the M fork based upon the very poor reviews here...it would seem like they must have cured the problem to go back to it for 2010. All I can say is my forks seem fine. GL.

is the M fork on the S really that bad?
if the kayaba is better why only use it for a year? seems suspicious - like this was just some kind of OEM parts negotiation.
i'd like to do 09 because it's newer but it feels strange that the kayaba fork is one year only - and then $2000 is a LOT of money for the newer bike.
$10900 is a pretty smokin deal to get an 08 S with no miles and a full warranty.

For $2000 you could get a nice set of Ohlins, and call it a day.

My bet is the switch to Kayaba in 09 had more to do with supply issues and $$ then it had to do with performance.

For $1495 we have the 25mm Öhlins cap/cartrige kit for the Marzochi's, better than standard Öhlins R&T's or any KYB.

Purely and simply Marshocking will have gotten a wake up call by Kayaba and will have dropped there price as a subcontract supplier .... I am guessing that as price goes down so does quality, interesting to see what happens with 2010 bike with M forks.
I would be surprised if M have sorted the cartridges and made good.

agree i think the consensus is this is some kind of sourcing deal thing - marzochi's bluff was called and kayaba got in - now that duc has shown they are serious - marzochi has to drop their pants on the price to get back in.
for me i think i save the 3600 over msrp or the 2000 over the cheapest left over 09 i have seen and go for the 08 hyper S at 10900 - i think it's a steal at that price.

I repeat that my KYB fork works A OK, so that is worth a lot to me, they have also always been great on my dirt bikes too.

As many of you wrote, it's all about increasing the profit margin for Ducati and therefore they will work with whoever gives them the best deal each year.
For all those who complained about the Marzochi, there are way more people who think they work just fine. It is obvious that the superbike kind of riders who are looking at the hypermotard as a track bike will never be happy. Let's face it the Hypermotard was designed for that. For what I do in Mountain roads, it's working great, yes I wish a bit more travel as I am used to on the Husky supermoto. Fo that aspect, the new Marzochi fork of the 2010 evo SP version might be the answer.
Back to the question of thread, I would not pay any extra on a hypermotard to get the 2009 fork instead of the 2008 one...
