Hooking up battery tender
Just wanted to clear a few things up before I began the install.
I read through my owners manual and searched on here, we have a 12v battery and not a 6v correct? My last bike was a 6v and when I tried to charge it I fried it. I just picked up a new 12v battery tender jr and wanted to make sure before I hooked it up.
Also when I bought her, my dealer told me if I disconnected my battery they ecu would reset and would not start it again. I would have to get it towed to his shop so he could put the code in so I could start her again. BS or true?
Thanks for any help with my noobish questions

Thought it may be bs. The manual says when charging the battery to disconnect it from the bike. Nothing about entering a code once you reconnect it. Does anyone actually disconnect the battery from the bike when charging or just plug and unplug?

I don't disconnect the battery. However I do have a fused lead with SAe end. I plug th Battery tender to the SAE connector. Never had a problem with all of the bikes I've charged this way..

I disconnect the battery from the bike. My bikes have to spend winter in a freezing wooden shed and I have never felt comfortable leaving the battery plugged in for fear that I will burn down my shed or something so I take the battery inside and hook it up to a charger in my basement.
No problems getting the 999 to fire up next spring, I can't imagine the Tard being any different.

Just finished! Disconnected the battery, hooked up the charger and reconnected the battery, charged her for about an hour while I lost the charcoal box and she started up no problem. My dealer is weird....
Thanks everyone!

I took the battery out of the Hyper for 6+ months to "tend" it and when I put it back in, she started back up.
I am sure many others have, as well, when they put in the larger fuel tank.
